I already have an MA degree and thinking about continuing my educational path. I've contacted a few schools and some have stated that they will allow me to to enter the Doctorate level to a Doctor of Theology degree, while others have stated that although I have an MA that they require an M.Div., in order to meet the requirements to enter a Doctorate program.

I wanted to get some feedback as to whether I should just go directly into the Doctor of Theology program or if I should do the Master of Divinity (90+ hours)? It is a tough decision and I'm 50/50 with it.

I think that it would be good to show that I have a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Theology. But, at the same time if I wind up ultimately getting a Doctor of Theology would it really matter if I skipped the Master of Divinity? I would like to have some thoughts.

On the one hand, I'm afraid that if I don't do the Master of Divinity that this could be a potential hurdle for future prospects. At the same time, if I wind up getting the Doctor of Theology would it really matter?

One more issue. What is the difference between a Doctor of Theology and a Doctor of Philosophy? I was told that both are considered at the same level, while others have suggested that the Doctor of Philosophy is a little more higher. The Doctor of Theology and Doctor of Philosophy is higher than a Doctor of Ministry is that correct?

I was also told that a person who holds a Doctor of Ministry can't use "Doctor," in their name is that true? I was told that the Doctor of Ministry is like the same (even though their totally different majors) it is treated the same as someone who has a Doctor of Pharmacy as even though it says that they got a Doctor degree they aren't allowed to go by the title of "Doctor." Is that correct? Whereas a Doctor of Theology or Doctor of Philosophy is able to go by "Doctor." Please give some insight. Thank you.

In church settings they go by Dr. I cannot imagine academic settings would be different.
As far as your larger question, I would be shocked to find many settings where the question of MDiv or MA would matter when you have a doctorate except possibly the pulpit. IMO
