    Hello Aging,

Are you looking for a Master's Degree or a PhD? Do you currently hold any graduate degrees? I ask because there are some APA approved distance programs for this (some have small occasional weekends while others can be done 100% DL).

    peACE,

PS Here is the link for approved APA programs in this area. *NOTE* if you want licensure in this area, nearly EVERY state requires APA approval. However, there are a couple (I think 5) that let you go around this condition:

Hell Aging, I am a practicing psychologist and I believe I can explain what you've encountered. Applied psychology is moving toward prescriptive authority for a limited formulary to treat mental disorders. Two states, New Mexico and Louisiana, have enacted this legislation and a number of programs now offer distance learning for licensed psychologists who seek this endorsement.

    APA stuff

To date, there is only one distance ed Clinical Psych program for licensure that is APA. That institution is www.fielding.edu

Once Capella Univesity gets approved then it will be the second.

As for states requiring APA programmatic accreditation to sit for psychology licensure state board tests, last I heard there were about 12 states out of the whole that require it.

Hello Blackbird. Do you have any idea which states require an APA approved degree? I haven't followed this in the journals. Also, how are your studies going and are you close to graduating?

    David,

It is a hard thing to find out the exact amount of states the either require APA programmatic accrediation or recommend an APA like program.

I remembered that Saybrook had on their website a factoid on this:

"There are 18 states that Saybrook Graduate School currently believes have the APA or Residence hurdles:

Alaska, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vermont. Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, and West Virginia may be other states with one of these hurdles, but we are not sure."

    From http://www.saybrook.edu/academics/specializations.asp?strContent=Doctor%20of%20Psychology-level%20Licensure%20Specialization%20(Ph.D.)

As for your question on where I'm at in my studies...

I am right in the middle of obtaining my participants for my dissertation study. If all goes well, I might be able to get my Ph.D. by Christmas.

Thanks for asking and thanks for taking the time a long time ago when you called me and showed interest in my questions.
