The article is interesting but some of the comments after the article are down right hilarious...

"You automatically start off with +10 dorkiness in your stats"

"DING! 80th Grade! Oh wait, I had purchased the Chinese Power Level from a website."

"Behold my netbook of chemistry +2"

"I think the best way to gain experience in this class would be to hide in the forest and kill boars for +2 EXP each. then when we've leveled up enough we can take down the evil guy"

That's not a particularly scholarly sounding approach, but it sure looks like a fun class. I know that it's a breath of fresh air when a professor changes things around. It might seem silly, but I wonder, this practice might actually be good pedagogy.

COMMENT: Do I get a "Demolition Expert" Trophy for ruining the class curve?

I'm all for it. There is no real difference in the scoring mechanism except the potential for fun as best I can tell. If it doesn't work, no harm, no foul. Also, it's a game design class, so the skeptics should consider the audience.
