I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on how to handle a situation I’m having with Ashford University. My academic advisor told me that if I take off more then 29 days from the university I will be kicked out. Can they do this? I would like to take 4-5 classes a year, because if I take more then that I have to pay taxes on what my employer pays. I thought universities allow you to complete a degree in a timeframe that usually less then for 5 years. The classes there are academically challenging, but the staff in the office is not helpful at all. Could I transfer my graduate degree credit to Excelsior College in the MALS program? I have completed 12 credits (4 of 11) so far in Organizational Development?
That certainly sounds unusual; as far as transferring to Excelsior, I believe they'll accept up to 15 credits in transfer to the MALS program but there's no guarantee all credits will fit. Best to contact them before you make a decision.
NCU has 45 days enrollment policy, the good thing about it, is that you can wait the 45 days and enroll in a class about 60 days in the future, that giving you a total of 105 days off. When I was at Argosy, they had or have a continuous enrollment policy, so you could not take any time off between terms and if you did, they would drop you, when you compare Ashford against Argosy, Ashford does not seen that bad. But as best you will have to find a place that can accommodate your needs and or circumstances. Best of luck.
I've never discussed this with Ashford but I did ask about skipping a class for the MBA program but they informed me that because this is an accelerated degree that doing so is prohibited. So there you go... What degree are you working towards? I assume it is accelerated?
It's not a bad deal. I'm penny pinching so we can buy a bigger home. We recently had twins, and I’m trying to move into something bigger. I’m tripping over toys in are current house.
I wish you the best of luck as you move toward your goal but I really have to tell you that you're going to be tripping over toys regardless of the new house. Give the twins a big kiss for me.
We just added an addition to our home - it was much more economical than changing houses (especially in California)
I would suggest going to somebody in senior administration at Ashford and asking for an exception to the policy. Usually if you get high enough in the hierarchy, you can find someone who understands when it makes sense to bend the rules if it benefits everyone.
