Several people expressed interest in a diploma picture, so here is a pic of the diploma my disabled friend earned at Alison. It's pretty nice; has a hologram and is printed on really nice paper (better be nice for what it cost me). The colored writing is an artifact that occurred using my webcam to take the picture somehow, all text on the diploma is straight black. I posted a picture of his certificate he earned in accounting about a week ago, but this one is his second thing from Alison and is the result of one of their larger diploma programs.

The Business and Entrepreneur diploma program is a little better than the health diploma program at Alison, but it's still pretty basic. It's certainly not a degree from Harvard, but it could be an interesting diversion or a minor resume pad for some people.

In our case, the big benefit is that it's gotten my friend motivated about improving himself; he is signed up for A+ certification classes at our local CC. I'm praying that he goes all the way through with a few computer certs beyond the A+ and develops a marketable skill. A life on a meager SS check is not much of a life, especially considering the dismal outlook for social security.

Indeed, the health studies diploma is a complete disaster, but I've noticed that the quality varies greatly with the course provider- of which there are several. I looked through a program on graphic imaging (forgot the name of the course) and was surprised to find several hours of video lectures and screen capture walkthroughs for each module. It was nothing at all like Health Studies, so my current assessment os ALISON that their programs are hit & miss.

Yes, certainly not a replacement for a real degree. But it's OK for what it is.
