hi All, Does anyone know of any on-line or hybrid Doctoral programs in Sociology? Ive been searching of and on for a couple days and havent found any at all (other that the UNISA-type research degrees, which arent ideally what i was hoping for) I found NMSU's MA in Sociology, but thats as far as i could go, no Doctorate. any leads would be deeply appreciated. Take care, mike
Once upon a time, I also searched and searched and didn't find one on line. That's not to say they don't exist... I did find a cool Food Anthropology PhD program though LOL!
This sounds like a job for Unisa! I've never heard of one from a North American university. As ever, though, the University of South Africa has everything: http://brochure.unisa.ac.za/brochure/showprev.aspx?d=l_2_8&f=p_08427 -=Steve=-
Saybrook Graduate School offers Ph.D in Human Science. I am not in this field, and not sure what is the difference.
Hi mknehr - Typically when members come here asking questions about degree programs "Hey, does anyone know where I can find a degree program in XYZ?" they are looking for a degree from a US college or university. Sometimes, when they can't afford one of those degrees or maybe it just doesn't exist, they become more willing to look outside of the US. If you're at that point then you can look at these The University of Melbourne http://coursesearch.unimelb.edu.au/coursedetail.aspx?cid=1043&ctype=4&typeall=0&typepg=1&typeug=0&typesc=0&stype=Keyword&sterm=sociology Charles Sturt University http://www.csu.edu.au/courses/postgraduate/doctor_philosophy_arts/index.html Deakin University http://www.deakin.edu.au/future-students/courses/course.php?course=A900&stutype=international University of South Africa http://www.unisa.ac.za/Default.asp?Cmd=ViewContent&ContentID=11113 Good luck
The University of Sussex (UK) offers a DPhil in Sociology http://www.sussex.ac.uk/Units/public...tudy/Sociology Many Universities in UK have schools or departments of Social Science or sociology, PhD's students graduated from this schools/departments have achieved a Doctorate in Sociology, although the research interests may vary quite a bit and thus the wording on the Diploma.
Hi vadro - nice grab. That link didn't work for me so I pulled up another. They looked the same to me but yaknow, it's an internet thing. http://www.sussex.ac.uk/Units/publications/pgrad2009/areasofstudy/Sociology
Thank you I just wanted to circle back and say 'Thanks you' to everyone who offered some ideas. I really do appreciate them all. Take care, Mike
Perhaps a good dissertation-only doctorate, such as the University of Bradford www.brad.ac.uk or the University of Tasmania www.utas.edu.au
You might want to check out Royal Roads University's new Doctorate in Social Sciences (http://www.royalroads.ca/programs/faculties-schools-centres/faculty-social-applied-sciences/interdisciplinary-studies/soclscnc-doc/default.htm) It looks like it is mostly distance. It seems to be interdisciplinary as well. Royal Roads is a great school with an excellent reputation. It is based in Victoria, Canada. Good luck with your search. Cheers..
