    Last week, I asked advice about getting a Doctorate based on existing publications as many schools offer this option now. It looks like Dr MCGee is an expert at this, he managed to get 13 doctorates based on his existing publications:

    Education – Robert W. McGee

    This link is for those that are interested in this option.

    Good he stopped at 13 because 14 would be overboard.:laughing:

    Wow! This dude has more doctorates than that Indian professor who has twenty-three master's degrees and eight doctorates!

    Excellent question.

    Obviously once the methodology is figured out, then getting multiple research doctorates becomes easy, albeit time consuming.

    Recommendation: Get the minimum number of degrees that are necessary to favorably impact humanity. Anything more is vainglory.

    Right...this guy has simply listed out his degrees in lieu of a list of actual publications that one would expect to see.

    Somehow, most of the world suffices with one PhD and a list of publications.

    I took a class with him as an undergrad at Barry University. He was a very approachable professor, and was always helpful. While I was at Barry he also thought classes at FIU and The University of Miami.

    According to his LinkedIn profile he left Barry in 2007. The he went onto teach in the following countries:

    * Denmark
    * Australia
    * Mexico
    * India
    * Jamaica
    *Panama
    * Russia
    * Thailand
    * Estonia
    *China
    * North Carolina

    In six years he has lived in 11 different countries!:shocked: And I though I was bad.

    What? This guy only has four asociate's degrees. He'll need fourteen more to break that record.

    What? This guy has only one master's degree. He'll need twenty-nine more to break that record.

    I assume you'll ask him, then? I hope you'll report back if he says anything of potential general interest!

    I don't know too much about Fayetteville State U, but I think that just because a school isn't prestigious doesn't mean it's not good. And, what chances do non-prestigious and lower tier schools have to better their prestige/image if accomplished PhD holders like Robert McGee continue to ignore them?

    Fayetteville State could be an academically sound school (or not) for all I know, but I do know that as an HBCU its mission is different from most other schools. Education is the key out of poverty, and many of the students that attend FSU come from dire circumstances. Coupled with the fact that the state of NC has some of the lowest in-state tuition rates in the USA, FSU is an attractive higher education option for first generation and/or poor students, regardless of race.

    Folks have to start somewhere, and if they do well at FSU they can use it as a stepping stone to more prestigious post-graduate educational opportunities should they choose to do so. There is a place for schools like Fayetteville State.

    Maybe he was offered an attractive salary there...I don't know. I noticed that the CJ salaries at the little known Angelo State University are higher than the ones at the more well-known and higher ranked Texas State University. And, the TSU professors graduated from more prestigious schools.

    For a PhD, you need about 5 papers so basically he applies for a new PhD for every 5 papers that he publishes.

    There is still a lot of work involved, you need to write a 15,000 words report on how your publications have impacted the field and you need to defend the thesis.

    There is also the cost issue, each doctorate requires at least one year of registration. British schools charge about 10K British pounds per year so 13 doctorates is about 130K British pounds.

    He is basically a good example that a second, third, fourth, etc PhD is not going to get you a better job.

    His last PhD is good, it is from a top British School (Warwick). However, it looks like he got his first job with a low tier European PhD by publication. He learned the game and eventually got a prestigious one only after 13 doctorates.

    In few words, his last PhD is more valuable than the other 12 put together.

    All of those statements are laden with assumptions, chief of which is that this person has the same goals that you do.

    It is clear to me that he doesn't get doctorates because he wants a tenure track. He is already tenured. It seems more of a hobby than anything else.

    He might be on a quest to beat to establish a new guiness record.
