"A second review team considering reaccreditation of the University of Phoenix has raised questions about the sufficiency of its independence from its parent company, the Apollo Group, as well as the university's assessment of students and the level of research and faculty scholarship related to its graduate programs. But it is recommending less-stringent consequences than did the first review panel."

Panel Recommends Reaccrediting U. of Phoenix, but Notes Concerns - Administration - The Chronicle of Higher Education

Although the NC accrediting body (Higher Learning Commission) noted concerns about UOP, they did give it a 10 year accreditation, which is not exactly a short leash......:yup:

At the end of the article, there were several scathing comments from people who knew obviously nothing about its doctoral program, and one or two faculty defenders. I for one have been impressed with the UOP doctoral process, but not the expense.

When it comes to this sort of thing, comments on the bottom of articles from the Chronicle of Higher Education can be safely disregarded. Of course academics hate for-profit schools -- they know in that model they don't have a lifetime job guarantee or a light teaching load. That they're happy to ignore the findings of their peers who've actually reviewed the school closely when it conflicts with their preconceptions just shows how biased they really are.
