    Queen cancels tour

QUEEN Elizabeth II has called off her planned 16 day tour of Australia and New Zealand, beginning next month. Buckingham Palace said yesterday in London.

The British monarch changed her plans after the commonwealth Head of Government Meeting in Brisbane, Australia, was postponed in the wake of Sept. 11's terrorist attacks in the United States.

The statement by Buckingham Palace read "In the light of the postponement of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to early next year, the Queen will not be going to Australia and New Zealand".

The Queen, who is head of the Commonwealth and Head of State in Australia with the Prince Philip on October 3, for a nine-day visit.

She was to have opened the Commonwealth Summit conference before heading to New Zealand for seven days.

    Commonwealth Shifts Summit,

SECURITY reports that terrorists are spoiling for another round of attacks particularly at world leaders have led to the postponement of the Commonwealth Summit scheduled for between October 6 and 10 this year.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard disclosed yesterday in Brisbane, the host city, that the leaders of Britain, Canada and India had pulled out because of the attacks. “It is obviously in the wake of the world’s reaction to the September 11 incident.” Howard had told journalists.
