It's tough to argue grammar with someone who can't distinguish "less" and "fewer."

I know--it's a tough concept, especially for a Puerto Rican Romanainainain like me.

Definite lack of Humor or humour !

The "Krommainnian" was a joke about the French primate "L'Homme de Cro Magnon", who was cousin of the Neeanderthal Man.

Or is it a lack of knowledge..?

Touché Tonio as we say in fencing !

About "Pompous and Insulting attitude". I join this forum because you were were Pompous and insulting with Russ and you know it !

The Book of Proverbs says that one particular kind of fool is the fellow who insults someone and then says he was only joking. You could look it up.

Actually, gmail's very first post on Degreeinfo was in one of the Robert de Sorbon threads.

Alain Michal, who told us that he was an African male resident in France, was representing the school and claiming to be some kind of administrator there. Unfortunately he got hysterical and started throwing around insults, and Bruce banned him.

A couple of days later gmail appeared and immediately set to work defending Robert de Sorbon. Despite now claiming to be a native-born American female and a doctoral student at a Big Ten university, gmail wrote in ungrammatical English very similar to Alain Michal's.

It's interesting that gmail's recent return was simultaneous with the poster called 'Sorbon' (Alain Michal) reappearing on Degreeboard and posting there about Robert de Sorbon's acceptance by credential evaluators, its RA-equivalence, some cryptic stuff about the Code de France, and about the ODA's abject humiliation for having dissed it.

    It's just a coincidence, I'm sure.

    Huh? Huh?

I am not chastising your english (or grammar) but please, refrain from casting the first stone sideways! It may bounce off your nose and hit you in the mouth!

By the way, gmail, your profile states that you registered at degreeinfo on 08-10-04, however, Russ registered here on 02-08-2005. So how can you claim that "I join this forum because you were were Pompous and insulting with Russ?"

    Caught in a lie!

Or do you have a cogent explanation for this one, too?

Interestingly, you claim to be "The Diploma Mill Hunter." Whuch diploma mills have you hunted, when, where, and how? Any interesting findings?

No way would you, perchance, perhaps, just maybe, be the hunted, are you?

If you would like me to, Dr. Pina, I could insult your family and religion for you and I think then we'd make it a clean sweep?

    :D

No, it's just that the "joke" was a weak one and not worth a response. However, I said that your next post would contain another insult and you have proven me right. Thank you for being so delightfully predictable.

Touché Tonio as we say in fencing !

Oh, so you're a fencer also? So many accomplishments... Do you have a degree in it as well?;)

OK We (finally) have something to work with here. Russ and I had exactly one exchange on this thread. I responded to Russ' observation that Oregon limits education choice (which, unbeknowst to gmail, is the actual topic of this thread) Here is is:

    Tony's response to Russ:
The last time that I checked, there were over 2,000 regionally accredited institutions of higher education and dozens of nationally accredited ones. If you count community colleges, the number is over 4,000. As far as I can tell, residents of Oregon can enroll in any of them. According to Bears' Guide, there are a few hundred colleges and universities offering thousands of degrees that can be pursued via distance learning.

Just because Oregon places restrictions on one unaccredited school does not signal the death of educational choice for Oregonians. I live in Illinois, teach online courses for an RA university located in California and have students located all over the U.S. and in Canada. I have even had students from Oregon!

This, apparently, was "pompous and insulting" to Russ. This is the justification for gmail's personal insults about my ethnicity, my education and place of employment.

The funny thing is, Russ understood my post completely and gave what I considered to be a reasoned response:

    Russ' response to Tony
You are right, Tony, that educational choice is not dead in Oregon. It just bothers me that our state has taken on this ridiculous task of monitoring all the colleges of the world (yes, now we are even looking at international degrees). Not only is it arrogant for the ODA to decide it will be the one to sort out all accreditation problems when even the feds and the states can't agree on accreditation standards, they automatically assume that your college, if unaccredited, is guilty until proven innocent.

Education is changing dramatically in the internet world and creating rigidity by trying to defend the old way of accrediting institutions is not going to help. If the regionals and other accrediting agencies want an enforcement department who will send you nasty notes if you don't use their schools, let them spend the money to do it, not Oregon.

Even the government has recognized that universities will not experiment too much because they may lose their accreditation thereby stifling educational creativity. Accreditation also has certain standards that must be met which, at times have nothing to do with the quality of education you will receive. One of these standards, for instance, was how many books you have in your campus library. With the advent of the internet, this is a nonsensical standard to have and one which I hope they have eliminated. Another one, which was thrown in for political correctness, was that you had to have the correct ratio of minority students. If not, you could lose your accreditation.

The expression of absolute power corrupts absolutely could apply to regional accreditation bodies who know that no currently accredited school is going to risk loss of their accreditation and will do almost anything to meet their standards no matter how senseless they may be. That is power. If we continue to make them the only real choice for our higher education to be recognized, I sincerely believe their standards will become more and more irrational.

Competition is good. Competition is healthy. We need it in our system of higher education.

So there it is...The explanation for the only time, since I began posting on Degreeinfo 3 1/2 years ago, that I have receive ad hominem insults and racial slurs directed to me (ironically, from someone who claims to be incensed by racist slurs and who speaks liberally of "tolerance" and "humility"). Not only did I not know that I was insulting Russ (nor did I intend to), but Russ seems to have been unaware of that fact as well. In fact, gmail seems to be the only one on Earth who has this secret hidden knowledge of my secret hidden insults to Russ. Perhaps there is some secret hidden code in my message to Russ that, when you decipher it, it is actually converts from a response to an insult. Better ask DaVinci!

We are far from the main subject "ODA lost to KWU..."

Wrong again. Look at the top of your browser page. The subject of this thread is "Oregon Limits Educational Choice". That is what I posted about. I don't really care about ODA vs. KWU.

Tony, I never felt that you insulted me. I thought we were having one of the few cogent discussions on this board.

    Thank you.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Kennedy-Western University

Thanks for the information, Jim. I agree that name-calling on this board simply causes resentment, not intelligent discourse. Although I myself has engaged in it out of frustration, I am committed not to get back in the gutter again.

Based on your (and your family's) extensive experience with both RA schools and KWU, it seems that you would be able to recognize if the school was just a "diploma mill." I agree that one of the problems may be definitional. Some people on the board take the position that virtually any unaccredited school is a diploma mill. I believe this definition is inaccurate. In my mind, the definition should be one where the school simply sells diplomas to anyone or requires minimal work (unless you have someone with exceptional life experience).

I would be interested in your thoughts or, if you start a new thread, please expand your thinking on that. Thanks.
