----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now let go to substance! Do you think that the KWU "settlement" was a victory for ODA?
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Giving Kennedy-Western (Enterprises) a rope via ODA's legal settlement - can be interpreted at least two ways, in my humble view -

    1. It can serve as a lifeline for the degree-producing business to use in the pursuance of high and unambiguous standards of legitimacy, leading ultimately to widespread acceptance (by embracing highly regarded and respected academic quality standards and strictures of CHEA/RA or at least DETC-recognized accreditation), or

    2. It can provide the "diploma-millish" or academic standards-averse business (yes, it is a business and nowhere near a University) much leeway and free will to hang itself (from the tallest tree in Wyoming (or is it California or the next safe-harbor state?).

Only history (and unrelenting vigilance to standards and continuous improvement) will tell which one it will prove to be, in the not-so-long run.

    Thanks.

I can't help it. I really REALLY would like to know what connection russ has with KW.

C'mon, man, 'fess up! Do you work for KW? Have you earned a degree from KW? Or maybe you are a student at KW and are beginning to feel the awful pangs of doubt?

Why should you keep your credentials a secret? You have every right to your privacy, of course, but most of us tend to be PROUD both of our completed degrees and the programs we are in right now! Aren't you?

Also, by posting our programs, we inform others in the D/L world about opportunities, successes, problems and grief. Won't you add YOUR experience to ours?

Oregon is breaking new ground in their attempt to have the strongest academic fraud laws in the nation. I applaud their efforts.

Getting something like this right is very difficult. Once the legislature of one state gets it right then other state legislatures can use it as a template when forming their own laws. There's been a trend over the past half dozen to a dozen years to toughen up the academic fraud laws. I believe that this will continue.

I view this settlement as another step in that process of practical law making. The real victory is that academic frauds are going to have a more difficult time getting away with their deception.

My pure guess is that Russ is upset with the ODA because he got a degree that is illegal to use in Oregon. Based on the KWU agreement, perhaps it will be usable (but almost useless) if it's labeled unaccredited? He probably found out about the KWU lawsuit at Jamesville (based on the same tired old lies directed at Rich) and thought that KWU had struck a blow for what he calls educational choice. Educational choice means the freedom to choose substandard degrees or what I'd call academic fraud.

Well, it's mere speculation. russ has a right to keep silent but we're entitled to draw such conclusions from his silence as seem appropriate to us.

My heavens, Dr. Pina, you must be a wonderful instructor! Such PATIENCE! A glance at my own posts shows a flaring temper, I'm afraid; I do not suffer trolls or shills, gladly or otherwise.

Did you ever notice that these anti-accreditation (anti-academic standards?) folks seem very shy about their OWN credentials?

Well, except for fnhaynes; at least HE was upfront.

    Dear Anthony Pino,

I really doubt that you went to Church this Sunday or it was a very extremist one. You do not respect the people and worse when they disagree with your ideas, you trash them.

It is true, that I am afraid of people like you, they are dangerous mean and destructive. How could you assure me than you will not talk to my jury to trash me again, one week before the comp exam?

Also I really do not need to give the name of my university as any Big Ten institution is better (yes!) that Linda-Sierra-Loma U. (Nice Jesuit casuistic is not it?).

Look at the facts you insulted this poor Russ, then you insulted me for my " Childish comments". It is not childish to say that many people of this forum are intolerant like Hamas or Hezbollah. It is the truth !

It is not childish to say that your attitude is authoritarian and lets say "Goebelistic" (it is not a kind of mathematics Mr. Pino). You use constantly an old tactic: if you do like the message, do not discuss it, just destroy the messenger. The last one who did that, with success, was President Clinton...

You did not object, as far as I know, when Ham wrote that "N____ are savages", but the term “Very regional School” offends you.

Why? Because you did not like my two main ideas:

    1) Mr. Contreras had commendable goals but he blew it and blew it big!

    2) I think the settlement with KWU is not a victory for ODA but a defeat .

Instead of discussing it, you immediately assumed that this poor Arizona guy is a KWU graduate and I am a fake pretending to be a PhD candidate/TA. Sorry, but except for the Mormon School that you did not finished, I think I was in better schools than you but it does not matter.

Yes you are not employed now in a famous university. It should be in the third (am I nice?) or fourth tier of the US World & News Report classification. Consequently you should not act as pseudo-intellectual Pitt Bull.

If you are so interested in my education think, research, find the schools I attended and you will a get a Degree from Pina Grigia university. that we can create together in the "Neverlands". AND THEN SO WHAT ?

I have the right to have a sense of humor "Pina Colada" was not mean compared to what you wrote. I will repeat it, you are definitely "Not too coollada" Mr. Pina .

As I am myself of Latin origin, I will tell you:

“Ok hombre, relax, be a little less macho, more tolerant and apply to your life, what you are preaching Sunday at Church”

I agree, and I HOPE Oregon and the other states are successful in drafting laws that will eliminate the diploma mills and substandard "schools".

This is the first time I've ever seen Dr. Pina accussed of "trashing someone". Are you sure that you aren't confusing Dr. Pina with someone else? Could you please point out the post where you felt that this occurred?

    Thanks,
    Bill

P.S. I sincerely hope that you don't get banned for these silly unprovoked attacks against Dr. Pina.

Oh, no, I never said that. I just found your unspecified claims to such high academic accomplishments dubious given your writing style.

Also, I didn't associate your willingness to proffer that you have this education--without being specific--with you're being a "KWU-KGB employee." You're the one who cited yourself, not me.

By the way, I see you are now using "Bachelor's degree" correctly. Congratulations. Again, it was probably just a typo. I wonder what "mines" (sic) are proof of?

Thanks, Bill. I have tried hard these past years to be as professional and cordial as I can on Degreeinfo. I have a great respect for (most of) those here and it is a valuable resource for my work in distance learning at he university.

I am afraid that this poor "Big Ten PhD Candidate" is confused about more than just "who said what". Personally, I jope that she doesn't get banned. I'm now having fun with this.

Thank you, Nosborne. Part of what I do professionally is working with K-12 teachers and University faculty to help them integrate technology into learning and instruction. It takes a great deal of patience and respect for my colleagues and peers, as many of them are not comfortable with much of this "new stuff". Part of what I do is translating "tech" into "plain English", so that people can do and make fun stuff with it. My students and fellow faculty and administrators do compliment me on my instruction (I can't really judge myself). I just love what I do and have a great deal of fun doing it. I also have fun on this forum. There are some neat people here from whom i have learned much.

    Tony,
The dignity, respect and tolerance you have shown in this unfortunate exchange is appreciated and honorable. It far exceeds the capacity of many of us.

    Gmail.
Get a life, learn respect, and perhaps when you gain some honor, answer Tony's questions.

Pick your nose rather than pick on my friend, little man

Well, gmail, as another Latin on this forum, you disgust me. You make unbridled hateful remarks against one of our least controversial and most distinguished posters. Having had relatives disposed of by Palestinian terrorists, your comparison of the rest of us to Hamas and Hizballah is profoundly offensive to me--along with the gratuitously anti-Muslim tone of your posts. You express bigotry toward Dr Pin~a's religion, schooling, and employing university. I suggest you grow up, clean up your act, and apologize. Your behaviour is a disgrace. I hope that no newbie or lurker considers your foul attitude typical of this forum. It isn't. And you aren't.
    La dracu.

And, yes, I too spent a fair chunk of time in church on Sunday, saying Mass, teaching catechism, afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted.

But I confess (sorry about the pun) that I have no idea what "goebelistic" is. Were you trying to allude to Dr Joseph Goebbels (PhD, Heidelberg), the late unlamented National Socialist Minister of Propaganda and Starlet-Banging--may his name and memory be blotted out--but you are sufficiently uneducated that you can't even spell? Were you referring, perhaps, since mathematics entered into it, to Professor Goedel, but can't spell that, either? Or perhaps, since you fancy yourself a humorist, you were alluding to the late comic George Gobel? Or perhaps you are thirsty, and were thinking of Goebel beer--bad taste would bespeak you, after all?

You are, sir, outmanned, outthought, outcredentialed, out of your league and out to lunch. Maybe if you say you're sorry very nicely we'll play with you. Or maybe not.

    As-salaam aleikum,

    Janko Preotul
