    Hey guys,

I have an interesting question for anyone who is interested. The University of Alabama has a distance learning MS in Operations Management offered through their AACSB business school. The University of Arkansas has the same program offered through their school of engineering, which is ranked very highly.

OM is usually housed in a business school. Is it a disadvantage to earn this from an engineering school?

I teach Operations and many OM teachers come from Industrial Engineering. The ideal background is both business and engineering but Industrial Engineering is normally acceptable to teach OM. If you are going to get a business degree, I would suggest supply chain management rather than OM since this latest is more focused in manufacturing while the demand more towards services and supply chain management.

This is one overlap area where engineering meets business. It's hard to tell which one is better than the other one. I believe it is more on what you are interested.

Similar topics like Management of Technology, New Product Development are run by engineering faculty too, but yet closely related to business. Operation Management degree also cover these topics too. I find these topics interesting.
