I am in a rather unusual situation. I am an American living in Stockholm, Sweden. I just landed a job as a middle-school teacher (8th- and 9th-grade). The job fell out of the sky, really, as the school lost a teacher unexpectedly and had to find someone within a matter of days. I happened to have been one of ten resumes they had on file and I gave the best interview of 8 people, so they hired me. I have no teaching experience and no teaching qualifications.

I want to get a teacher certification through a British school. I also need to do it online. Does anyone know of such a program?

I would also like to know if there is a way to earn an American teacher certification online. I believe one must be teaching in an American school to earn the proper "in-class" credits, but I am not sure on that point. Any suggestions?

    Muchas gracias!

I don't know about UK teacher certifications online, but the following US teacher certifications online readily pop to mind: Antioch University www.antioch.edu ; City University www.cityu.edu ; Eastern Oregon University www.eou.edu ; Goddard College www.goddard.edu ; Liberty University www.liberty.edu ; University of Maryland University College www.umuc.edu/gen/virtuniv.html ; University of South Alabama www.usaonline.southalabama.edu ; Vermont College of the Union Institute www.tui.edu ; and Western Governors University www.wgu.edu .

    Thanks for those, Ted.

I did search the boards and found mention of WGU, UFlorida, and Drexel. The WGU program actually looks like it would fit the bill nicely, but I will have to contact them to find out about adjusting the in-class teaching assessment since I doubt they would send an assessor to Sweden to check me out.

U of London has some online ed options, but none of them fit what I need.

I am in somewhat of a similar situation only in Malmö.

My problem so far has been the issue of getting around state certifiction in the states withut actually doing the practicums there

Rio Salado seems good but does not solve the problem above. Also the Open University in England.

Regarding WGU, as far as I know they only accept candidates from the US (ie. living in the USA)
