Can anyone make any suggestions for online MSW's? On the contrary, any that people do NOT suggest?

    Thank you!

That's a pretty good list. I'd also check out University of North Dakota, who has a very innovative one. There's also a pretty cool program offered by a school in Florida. Name escapes me at the moment, but if you search "MSW degrees" here at degreeinfo, you should be able to find it.

I believe that Florida State University is the school that Chip is referring to. If it matters, it was the first online MSW program in the USA. I'd give the Florida program and the Dakota program some serious consideration because if you look at some of the programs on the Top 10 list you'll see that they're pretty expensive.

Florida State University looks like a great program; however, they have coverage areas which only allows them to accept people who live in seven states for their online program... and my state is not one of them!

I have googled it and have an extensive list of programs I have been researching; however, I was looking for anyone's personal experiences with any of these schools.

We may have some members with experience with some of these schools but I don't believe we know anyone who has completed an online MSW degree from anywhere. Since your thread title relates more to a particular degree than it does to a particular school (or set of schools) I'd suggest that you start a new thread with a title of "X University v. Y University v. Z University," or something to that effect. Good luck.

There's a little-known but apparently really excellent distance-based MSW program run by Memorial University in St. Johns, Newfoundland (Canada.) From my understanding, it does require one short residency (10 days, I think), but it is well regarded, and one of the comments I heard from someone who also attended two other top-tier Canadian schools was that the level of academic rigor and scholarship at Memorial was actually higher than at the other, better-known schools.

Best part is, the entire MSW program for international (non-Canadian) students is about $4000.

I know two people in the online MSW program at Fordham and they say the name recognition is great (which matters, depending on the end goals for the MSW) and I also have an in-law who completed the MSW at Rutgers. One Fordham student says she wishes she had gone a less expensive route. The other says she wishes she had gone a quicker route. The Rutgers alum also did her BSW at Rutgers and felt the online program was straightforward. Both Fordham and Rutgers are CSWE-accredited.

Wish I had more info to offer beyond that. Two important factors with social work are: (1) CSWE accreditation and (2) how field placements are set up. When you do consider these schools, you will want to ask how field placements are assigned. Depending on where you live and work currently, this could make or break a program for you.

Walden has a brand new online MSW that is not yet CSWE-accredited but if you are not starting right away, it might still be in the running.

Good luck to you...please let us know where you end up.

I should add CSWE.org is the best place to get a list of online MSW programs that are accredited by THEM, which is important if you actually want to be a social worker. Just thought I would add that.
