That's an interesting way to say it.

Have you read about its beginnings? And that's just the beginning.

What do you mean by in a shill? So far based on what i've said, NCU ticks all of the marks. Now with it's reputation in question I'm unsure of. I've seen far more Walden/Capella advertisements, I just so happen to come across NCU via this community. If anyone has other suggestions, I'll have an open mind towards all opinions. I'm not dead set on one college >.<

NCU has all doctoral faculty, classes are 8 weeks and begin every week, students can accelerate the program if they choose by taking more than one class at a time or by turning in assignments early, courses are straightforward and consistent in how you complete assignments, you don't have to do group projects or post to group discussion boards, there are very many specializations to choose from, advisors are friendly and available, the school isn't subsidized by your tax money as a private school.

    Now the bad.
NCU prices go up every year but you can lock in your tuition if you take 5 classes a year.
It is RA accredited and ACBSP but not AACSB.
The general feeling about the PhD dissertation process is that you are on your own and there are many runarounds to deal with.
    Nobody knows about it.
Its a private for profit and that upsets the big government types.

I've also heard of students getting the run around from NCU, Capella, and Walden. Whether from Ph.D dissertation commitees inconsistently changing to having errors on the FASFA forms and not notifying the students until they are finished with the program, then billing them from anywhere of 100-3400. I've seen one such lawsuit, although i've not studied it in depth, with Capella and not allowing someone to obtain their degree after years of studying with them. Based on my research, NCU has/had a big problem with the dissertation process. Many sites show disgruntled students in this process. Once again, I'm not saying those students are wrong in any regard. I'm just trying to find the correct school with the least amount of "problems" as well as a reputable status. Price may be of concern depending on if Uncle Sam is willing to pay via Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation).

RFValve, what is an "NCU shill" (your words)? You have made this allegation against others too.

I made it through the NCU dissertation process in 3 DIS classes (the minimum). It all depends on the chair to help you move through the process.

Perhaps it depends on the program and the timing...?

A shill is typically thought of as someone who is being dishonest about their relationship with a school (or other entity) while they are promoting that school/entity. For example, if I am posing as a student of XYZ University and talking about how great the school is but in reality I am a paid member of a marketing team assigned to promote the school then I am a shill. Or, if I am pretending to be objective (not connected to the school in any way) but in reality I am a student or paid employee of the school then I am a shill. We expect people to disclose their relationships with schools they discuss and this is one of the reasons that people put their affiliations in their sig lines. But if, for example, I am singing the praises of Wentworth I am not a shill because I have made full disclosure and people can evaluate my words based on the fact that I may have a positive bias toward my alma mater. There's nothing wrong or improper about saying good things (or even bad things) about a school you've attended. In fact, we love it when our members talk about their academic experiences because it helps others to make more informed choices.

thanks for the clarification, but no i'm not a shill. the only university affiliation i've had is from a B&M in my home state. That's why I'm quite ignorant across this entire community. I tend to do research along with input from first hand experiencers as i dont want to go to a DL college to be stuck with a dullard. Once again I'm open to ALL suggestions.

No worries. RFValve has also called others an "NCU shill" too, to include myself, so you're in good company. When Ad Hominem attacks become someone's comfort zone, their argument becomes weak.

No harm no foul, currently i'm looking into walden and capella more in depth. despite their residency requirements, they still are high on my list for a masters degree. does anyone have first hand experience with either of these institutions?

I think a lot of the complaints that you can read on the internet are from students back in the 07/08 range where the school didnt have the resources and proper stages set in place which doesn't give the University an excuse AT ALL but thats my opinion. I've been at the university for a year and although none of my students who I advise have gotten to their dissertation yet, they haven't had a problem yet and/or gotten their dissertation process almost already nailed down. Maybe I'm a different advisor? Maybe I go the extra mile that any student wants from their support system? I'm not sure. But with all the faculty being full time now and the Provost really making his mark in the dissertation process and listening to the feedback, I think that culture has changed...but thats just my opinion

I googled 10 pages and found ZERO faculty with Walden PhDs at legitimate universities (other than those employed by Walden)

I googled "Ph.D., Walden University" site:.edu -site:waldenu.edu. There appears to be page after page after page of faculty listings with the string "Ph.D., Walden University" at .edu domain holders other than Walden.

ETA: Lots for "Ed.D., Walden University" site:.edu -site:waldenu.edu also. Little for "D.B.A., Walden University" site:.edu -site:waldenu.edu.
