    Hi All,

Am new. Looking at options to do online DBA/PhD. Did a lot of researches and came up with these short-listed options: Anyone have any real experience or comments (I read most of the post here already!)

    - DBA degree - Universidad Catolica De Murcia (UCAM), Spain
(Pros: Fast, Cheap, Decent Uni., Accredited in some sense.
Cons: New, seems widely distributed this programme to many Education Affiliate companies)

    - Professional PhD - Tilburg University
    https://www.tilburguniversity.edu/research/economics-and-management/graduate-school/ppp
(Pros: Good Uni and PhD title, Cost-wise - not too expensive (about 25,000 EUR in total)
Cons: 5 years, required short residency)

    - DBA - Glasgow Caledonian University
(Pros: Cheap, (Cost: About GBP 18,000 total)
Cons: Reputation not very strong, not many people know this uni, especially in North America)

    - DBA - TBS Business School
(Pros: 3 Accreditations, Seems reputable - at least from a non-American standard)

I am NOT looking to become a professor, but happy to teach some courses etc.
The DBA is for (1) For the sake of being a Doctorate; and (2) Hopefully some use in my career - but not that important. (3) Will return to Canada / US in 5 years, so want some kind of recognition there.

    Thanks,
    DK

Where are you now? What was your undergrad and where was it? Same question for grad. I see you've already got a very small short-list of possible programs, are you going to expand on them or are you just picking from this slim list? Would you want anything from the US instead, such as a PhD in Management? What is your budget looking like, around 30-35k USD? Got tuition assistance/reimbursement? LOL, seems like I'm asking questions instead of answering them... haha

    Thanks.

I am in Asia now, hence, much more open to non-US degree. :) But will be returning to North America in about 5 years.
I did my undergrad in finance (Canada), MBA in UK (Henley Biz School - not DL).
Looked at the US school, but nothing jumped out.
So, likely to be from this slim-list, unless something I miss.
Budget ... yea, around $30 to 35K would be nice, but happy to go higher if is worth it. (of course, not to the level of $70 or 80K). No tuition assistance.

It's probably a good idea to separate the PhD from the DBA. By the book the former is a scholarly degree, while the latter is a professional degree.

That said, there's a lot of line-blurring on this topic. The DBA is sometimes a scholarly degree despite the title, while the PhD can often be earned without necessarily advancing scholarship (theory).

It's important to look at the dissertation requirement to make this determination, ensuring the degree you choose will bring about the experience you seek.

Some PhD programs are also executive or professional. In general, part time DL programs are professional unless you enroll in a heavy research program meant for academics already working at Universities. None of the programs that you mention are top programs and I would put them all in the same basket so it is about your interest and program details. None of the programs would lead to an academic career at a research institution and they seem to be geared towards strengthening your career prospects that is mainly their purpose. The PhD tag has more market recognition but it is relative as Rich mentions.

@Donkey Kong , Have you looked at HW in the UK? They have a DBA for about $27000 and also check out the U of Cumberlands for their PhD offerings.
There are a few mentioned on this board that may be worth looking at, such as DBA at California Southern University, https://www.calsouthern.edu/business-management/dba/

I'm sorry, but this misstates the difference between a scholarly doctorate and a professional doctorate.

A scholarly doctorate makes a contribution to knowledge by either creating (rare) or testing (common) theory in one's field of study. Professional doctorates support the advancement of praxis, or practice in one's field. While there is some slurring around of degree titles--PhDs that advance practice and professional-sounding doctorates that, in fact, are scholarly--it is those distinctions that apply, not whether or not the degree "meant for academics." A lot of people complete scholarly degrees and enter practice instead. And some practitioners actually do scholarly degrees (I'm one of each.)

Since you mentioned that you are in Asia one more suggestion for you. Shenzhen University is allegedly handing out DBA certificates via this institution:

    https://www.world-executive-edu.com/

It's cheaper and probably way faster than the options you've considered, seems to be more a certificate than a degree I guess. Also I have to say thatI don't know anything about WEEI.

    Wow! That's a great find @Johann766 haha!! :)
Can't get any better than this... Chinese Uni + Russia Uni as their Partners

Having said that, I actually heard from some people - Shenzhen Uni is actually a decent school.
