Online College courses that can fit in spring quarter?

    Hey people,

I'm a community college student looking to transfer this upcoming Fall quarter but am missing a small amount of units due by the end of the current Spring quarter. I'm trying to make up these units from online courses before my quarter ends so I can get it on the transcript. However, most places I've checked either have a minimum time the course can be completed or are have already finished the Spring quarter. My deadline for my transcript is July 15 so I have about 5-6 weeks. Time is short and I'm pretty desperate: Does anyone know an online independent study that might fulfill my needs?

    I've already checked:
    BYU
    LSU
    Oklahoma University
    University of Idaho

    Thank you so much

    CLEP tests?

I'm not too familiar with CLEP tests. Do I just study for something like Introduction to Psychology and then take the test on the nearest date? How long would it take to get onto my transcript?

Actually, I just found out that the university I'm transferring to does not accept CLEP credit. :(

If they don't take CLEP, did you ask also if they take DSST, UExcel, TECEP, and the CSU CBE? Ask your school if they accept ACE or NCCRS credits also. I doubt it; But if they do, you can take courses at ALEKS (Math/Stat) Penn Foster (Business), Saylor, Straighterline, and Study.com for credit.

Does the university you're going to have online classes or a plain old summer session? My twins are both transferring from CC into the UC system. My daughter missed getting one of her required courses in, and was able to take it online at the college she is transferring to. She did have to get permission to do so, but in general schools don't rescind acceptances over this kind of thing. Her twin is also taking a couple of courses in person at his school ahead of official enrollment this Fall just to get ahead of the curve.

Another thing to do is to see if your school has any partnerships with an online school. Even schools that don't take alternative credit in general sometimes have agreements with individual providers. If you were to tell us which courses and what school you're transferring to, we would be able to help you better.

The university I got accepted into was UC San Diego. However, they need me to finish 90 units by the end of Spring 2016. I happen to be 2 units short so I'm trying to scrap together some online course that I can get credit before the quarter ends. I will call them tomorrow to see if online classes is an option. May I ask what school your daughter was able to take online courses at was?

Ah, my son is going to UCSD. My daughter is going UC Berkeley. She had to notify them that she wasn't going to be able to complete her Shakepeare course (she hadn't realized her CC only offered it in the fall term), and that she would like to take it over the summer. It took a couple weeks for them to get back to her and approve her doing that. When she initially contacted admissions, they said that they generally don't rescind acceptances over this kind of thing and to go ahead and make the request. She's taking it online because she couldn't find it over the summer locally.

I'd get with admissions at UCSD ASAP. You were supposed to notify them of any missing courses before the June 1 SIR deadline, I believe. I would think the longer you wait, the less they're going to like it. Also, summer sessions are starting very soon.

P.S. Which courses? No one can help you find them if we don't know what they are. However, the UC system is only going to accept credits earned from an RA school, I'm afraid.

The community college I go to is a quarter based system so the deadline is July 15 since the grades wont even come out before July 1.

I did indeed contact UCSD admissions already. They are aware of my situation but I'll call tomorrow for more details. I'm just missing 2 credits, so I can take any GE courses to make up for them.

Thanks for the website. However, I don't think 6 weeks is enough time because that ends the day before transcript is due and they need time to mail the transcript. I'm trying to see if there are any other programs that don't have a minimum required course length and can still make it onto Spring 2016 quarter.

    What subject areas will work?

Anything that is similar enough to GE courses they offer at UC campus' should be fine like intro to psychology, sociology, theatre, etc.

Well, OK. I'll keep thinking about it but with every tick of the clock it seems increasingly clear that you've waited too long to solve this problem.:sad6:

If a school doesn't accept ACE recommendations then it is unlikely to accept ALEKS, Penn Foster, Saylor, Straighterline or Study.com as all of these credit sources are ACE recommended and that recommendation is their primary vehicle for getting schools to accept their credits. If they don't accept ACE, and the school doesn't have an agreement with one of the aforementioned services, there would be no reason for them to accept any from the list you provided.

Thanks everyone for the help, I appreciate it alot. I believe I can make Oklahoma University independent study work because they told me it counts as self pace term which is entirely separate from term based quarters.

Sounds good. Make sure that there aren't any extra delays that will bite you. If your assignments have to be graded by a person, that can be an issue. Also, some schools can take a couple of weeks to record your grade, that kind of thing.
