My career has been in financial planning, financial management, internal auditing and also IT. I only have a matric qualification obtained in 1979. Both budget and health are less than satisfactory, with a history of mild stroke and cardiovascular disease. Stroke did affect especially short term memory - therefore, I would be interested in assignment-only courses done online. It also needs to be based upon distance learning. Main interests are: Communications - electronic & printed media, making presentations, publishing, using platforms such as Wordpress to reach audiences, etc. Business communications. Commercial law - contracts Industrial psychology - group dynamics I am aware that, at my age and work experience, I can enrol in a MBA programme without a Bachelor's degree first. However, I am not sure MBA is the correct choice. I would prefer doing a master's without a bachelor's degree first, if possible. Objective: to acquire a qualification that will afford me with functional, working knowledge and skill to enhance my productivity and efficiency. It is not needed for employment purposes, but to structure existing knowledge into a more efficient asset. There are too many gaps & loose ends in my make-up. I need something to reconcile my knowledge and mould it into a "sword of wisdom." Any advice welcome.
I know of only one masters degree program that does not (my understanding) require a bachelors degree and that is an MBA though the EBS MBA - Master of Business Administration, Online Courses at EBS For an on-line bachelor degree check out the big three schools: Charter Oak State College Finish your Degree Online - Charter Oak State College Thomas Edison State College College Education for Adults at Thomas Edison State College Excelsior College Excelsior College | Excelsior College Other contributors to this forum may have other options for you. Good luck.
Some other UK schools besides H-W offer pathways into master's degrees for those without a bachelor's. Go shopping. Also, you can consider engaging schools here in the U.S. to see what they might do. You'd be surprised.
I believe a member here found out that University of Maryland University College does not require a bachelor's as a prerequisite.
Thanks for all the tips. I need to be doing it online as I am in Africa - I know that most universities here would allow it, provided one has a strong resume. Two great universities in the nearest city, yet too far still to attend classes. I will look at those mentioned by all here, thanks.
You are never too old, or too weather-beaten to improve your mind. Keep exercising your mind and it will stay strong. Kudos to you for your effort!
"If I did not learn anything new today, I did not live today." Instead of tiring my mind with the ball game, I acquire new skills. Slowly, at my own pace, I am evolving into a Linux geek. There are many areas of life to learn about, we cannot be coddled by soapies, computer games & porn. Instead, read and get knowledge, do online research and get insight, grow spiritually and gain wisdom. After my spinal injury, I could not walk for extended periods of time, so I read a lot and had my computer set up where I could reach it. So I started writing, taught myself lots of skills and generally developed myself. Something needed to fill the gap left when I could not walk or climb mountains. I can pardon many errors, but for incompetence there is no excuse.
