    Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with old college credits (>15 years old) and having them accepted (or rejectd) by any of the Big 3? I was looking to enroll with COSC or whoever would accept my ancient credits, not sure how the Big 3 deals with old credits from old timers like myself.

    Thanks kindly,
    Sonny

  2. No problems at all with acceptance at Excelsior - and others have stated the same for COSC.

If you visit each college's website and check out their catalogs you'll see their policy - generally all credits are accepted regardless of age except for technology programs where it seems there is a 10 year limit towards applying credit to the core (not elective) requirement.

    Cheers,
    Mark

"Generally, there is no time limit on the use of credit from proficiency examinations or college courses to satisfy the requirements of Excelsior College liberal arts degree programs or the general education component of our business, nursing, and technology degree programs. There are, however, time restrictions on the acceptability of courses or examinations used to satisfy the professional component of our business, nursing, and technology degree programs."

"In general, the time limits are: 20 years for business, 10 years for electronics/computer technology and 5 years for nursing."

COSC gave me credit for a 19 year old community college course in Pascal (a programming language).

    In my case

COSC, which I matriculated into this week accepted 115 hours the newest of which is 25 years old - Spring 1979!

The only thing they didn't accept were a few D's I got in my earlier years when I was playing too much.

Excelsior did pretty much the same but I found their $60 unofficial evaluation a waste. They missed many of my credits altogether in that evaluation.

I would encourage you to call, email or write both Excelsior and COSC and find out who you are most comfortable with before spending ANY money with any of them.

Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!

And, PLEASE let us all know how things work out!

COSC gave me credit for Electronic credits that were 15 years old. I found COSC the best of all three as far as customer service.

    Thanks for the info!

Appreciate the posts and wonderful information. Nice to know that my ancient credits won't go to waste after all. I'd hate to take those classes over again too. I do wish as some on the board have mentioned that Excelsior had a better initial evaluation program like COSC, it would really help a lot of prospective students like myself know where they are and need to accomplish!

    Thanks again everyone!

    Greetings.

As I don't recall anyone else mentioning the following, I guess I will.

Excelsior College's (www.excelsior.edu) credit time limits can be challenged. For example, if you a course long ago, but have been employed in a field related to it, they may wave the time limit. Of course, you'd want to make your own enquiries with Excelsior.

    Cordially,

    Old Credits

Just wanted to add my two cents. When I enrolled at COSC in '02 they posted ancient 35 year old credits for me. I believe rocks were still soft when I originally obtained them!
