Is this the start of something new? In the 90s Heriot-Watt did not renewed its AMBA accreditation citing basically similiar issues as Northwestern.

"We just don't find that the review provides us with anything beyond what we already know today. It's relatively superficial, extremely time-consuming and doesn't lead us to a goal of significant improvement. It's sort of a low bar."

    Ouch.

Will any potential students be dissuaded from applying because of this?

I seriously doubt it, and if so, there will be a long line of replacements behind them.

    Wow! This is... WOW!

A lot of big name schools could get away with this, but I think the PR direction it would take is something most schools wouldn't be willing to deal with. Medill I guess has enough guts to stick it out, and it will serve as an interesting little experiment for us to watch.

Most major schools could go without Accreditation if it were not for FinAid. Heck Bob Jones and others did it for years with little issues.

Yes - in fact one well-known school did so for ALMOST THIRTY YEARS: Cal Southern U., under its former name, SCUPS - Southern Cal. University for Professional Studies. It began unaccredited in 1977, in 2010 became NA (DETC) and since 2015 is RA (WASC).

But Northwestern's choice is not really a case of going without institutional accreditation. The entire school is still RA. It's programmatic accreditation that's being given up. That's different - and has no bearing on Financial Aid.

Dang that time-limit. After I checked the dates I realized it was 33 YEARS.
