The following is a copy of an email from the President of NCU. Hello Wes: The Board of Trustees of The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools granted Northcentral University, Prescott, AZ, initial candidacy status on June 22, 2001. This is a tremendous achievement and validates our distance learning model of higher learning. Thank you all for your hard work, commitment and faith in NCU. Donald Hecht, President
I really will send you a 6-pack of the Silver Bullet. I'll e-mail you privately. I still can't believe it, but I'm glad for them. Rich Douglas
Wow. Does this include their graduate programs? If the tuition does not jump too much this will be a great consideration.
Yes, that is welcome news. Just this week I was notified that I had been accepted into the PhD program. The fact that they were working towards regional accreditation played a big role in my decision. Any other NCU (current or wanabees) learners out there - feel free to contact me at [email protected] Bill
Although I'm sure you would've paid the bet, it was all in fun. I'm just glad another DL option exists that isn't so expensive.
I would think that NCU comes in as one of the least expensive RA option if you include the lack of travel costs. It also does not have a bad name. Sounds a little more regular than Argosy, Walden or Capella. When I mentioned Walden a few years ago, my wife asked if they were related to the bookstore chain. She wasn't to keen on The Graduate School of America either (reminded her of the Mall of the Americas in Minneapolis). PS If you don't want Rich's drinks then he can ship a case of Diet Coke my way. It is too hot here. - Just kidding (about the diet coke not the heat). North
Keep in mind that when Northcentral actually gains accreditation (which is a pretty long way from candidacy in most cases), their tuition probably will jump substantially, so while it's a good deal now, it may not be as great a deal when the degrees are actually accredited. Also, while the chance of achieving final accreditation is much greater for a school that has already been granted candidacy, it still is far from a done deal, so anyone signing up now should be aware that there is still some risk involved. But, with all that said, I wish the best to Northcentral and to those currently in their programs.
North, the program is the PhD in Business Administration. Chip, I am entering the program with eyes wide open. I am aware of the possibility that the RA will fall through - but I am willing to take that chance. Bill
