Sorry if you came here looking for one. I was just curious if the schools that seem to be getting into the propio racket were offering anything other than MBAs as that's all I was finding when I searched. Not looking for anything in particular. I'm just curious what's on the market now.

What makes the propio degrees a racket? I fail to see how these are dishonest...

    Hello!

I am not sure if it is a "racket" as in "dishonest business", but to answer the question what can be found on the market... in short, anything.. search a while on emagister or on groupon for "Master", and you will see what I mean.

    Best regards,
    Mac Juli

ENEB offers more than MBAs, but all their programs are business related.

Indeed. I would think it more in the vein of noise, excitement, kerfuffle.

Or maybe we're all off the mark and this is a question about tennis.

People often speak of many honest occupations as "rackets" - dishonest activities - when they're being cynical, facetious or humorous. Neuhaus may enjoy being all the above - or none. I have no idea. But he IS educated and posts in excellent English so I figure he can use words as he pleases. He will anyway. I've heard of the "plumbing racket," the "preaching racket," the "insurance racket," etc. What's special about propios? They're not sacred, are they?

Why shouldn't Neuhaus refer to the "propio racket?" I'm sure Dr. Levicoff wouldn't disagree. It seems something doesn't have to be dishonest to be called a racket. Another idiomatic conundrum, brought to you by the English language. :)

Webster has a take on a "racket" (other than the tennis one of course :) .

a: a fraudulent scheme, enterprise, or activity
b: a usually illegitimate enterprise made workable by bribery or intimidation
c: an easy and lucrative means of livelihood

I'm all for (c). If you absolutely have to work - and who doesn't, from time to time - easy and lucrative is the best combo going! :)

This is quite the list of inexpensive programs (even not as cheap as ENEB's!).

But firstly one should do some digging to learn more about the institutes offering these programs. I'd be curious to see if Neuhaus or any of our other members try any of these out!

University Nebrija is recognized by EQAR, ranked around 3,800 globally, and has nearly 40,000 alumni on LinkedIn
Miguel Cervantes University is also recognized by EQAR, ranked around 4500 globally (roughly the same as WGU), and has 15,000 alumni on LinkedIn

Nebrija is a pretty good school from what I've heard. If I can submit assignments/projects in English, I'm going to take one.

Cheap enough, but not super-cheap, esp. considering these are propios and as such, nobody's sure of the exact equivalent outside of Spain - except that it won't likely be a master's in a lot of places. I looked at a couple of the Spanish degree pages on subjects I had at least some familiarity with. Yes, they look comprehensive and legit. But I think the same caveats apply, as do with other propios. These particular degrees, to me, are more for fun than profit. If you're hoping to use them in a major, developed-country job market, you're at the mercy of your country's credential evaluators. That might not be good - at all.

    Might
be OK if you have a signed, sealed Euro offer to take those 60 ECTS in transfer somewhere. $3,000+ Cdn. is a bit expensive for fun - but, as comedian Flip Wilson said "If you got it, flaunt it." :)

Some of the sales pitch is a bit childish. You see this impressive briefcase and stack of DVD's that come with the course .... A final point. I looked and looked -- NO ENGLISH BUTTON. I don't think they cater to those who "no hablan español."

They have a few I'd have fun with and would probably be mildly useful, but yeah. Not sure anyone I'd be using those credentials with would demand a credential evaluation though

That's what saddens me greatly :emoji_weary:
but hey, at least I get a nice briefcase to console me at night while I translate my work line-by-line

My hat's off to you, Thorne. That takes guts. Anybody willing to start by translating line-by-line, will, soon enough, find they don't have to any more! Learning the language while learning the subject - now I realize what people new to English and to Canada are going through, when they come back to school here.

Reminds me of a Polish girl who came here at 15 or 16 with her parents. On arrival, she spoke no English at all. A year and a half later, she won the final year High School English First Prize for all of Toronto District Schools. That's something!

I think I'm going to get a T-Shirt: "REAL men learn Yoruba!" Who can argue? :)

It's a figure of speech, folks. Relax.

And thanks to all who shared. I was specifically thinking of English and DL but it's good to see just how much stuff is floating out there.
