The tuition discount that is offered to out of state students that take 6 credits or less per term from NM colleges/universities is about to end. More info is available on E-Learning Pundit (April 11th entry). :disappointed:

I wonder if the discounted tuition resulted in them losing money on distance students, or if they figure this is just another way to bleed students for more cash. If it was losing money, they should definitely discontinue it. The state of New Mexico should subsidize New Mexico residents, not residents of other states.

However, there is also a chance that these classes were making money for them, since the infrastructure was already in place to support in-state online students. In that case, this is a bad idea. They will probably be able so get the money from currently enrolled students. However, if the program charges the standard triple tuition for non-residents I don't see their programs being nearly as competitive as they were before. Actually, I was considering going for an ENMU MBA in a few years just for the heck of it, simply because they were so inexpensive.

At their prices, I doubt they were making any money on out of state students. And it's tough to fault them for not wanting to subsidize students from out of state, especially since as U.S. states go New Mexico is neither large nor affluent.

So, when does this take effect? How much will the tuition be? I just sent in my application and was preparing to register on April 18 for a class or two to start in the summer term.

Too bad. I am tired with this online sh@t. Even with low tuition; students still have to put in the time. There is no instant gratification with using your evening for years to study and do assignments to earn a degree. Long live for profits; you don't bullsh@t about taking students money; instate/out state gets ripped off equally.

I'd venture to bet that even with the tuition increase the this school is still less expensive than most for-profits. I'd say that for most traditional state-schools with online programs.

I would think that losing that many student's would hurt them somehow but maybe not...I can't think that any of the colleges in NM are that lucrative- lucrative enough to attract students from all over the country if they do not have such discounted tuition. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that NM does not offer great schools just that I personally would never attend one in NM if it cost me 500.00 per credit hour.......

I also wonder how this affects those already enrolled in their programs......I would be MAD if I was say halfway through their program and only decided to attend their based on such low cost only to find out I have to finish and pay triple what I was originally.

My first thoughts - Glad I'm finishing this May!

Although, I vaguely remember reading something similar a while ago. It never happened. I noticed the article specifically mentioned UNM. I wonder if it'll only apply to them.

I'll be signing up on April 18 for an anatomy and physiology class with Clovis, so I'll let you know then how much they charge me. Even if they tripled the tuition, it would be cheaper than other online A&P courses I've found.

id gotten a note from my advisor that they will be honoring the current reduced tuition till Spring Semester 2012, then eliminating it.

needless to say im lookin for a place to move the graduate Sociology credits that i have from NMSU...

At CCC the difference is $150. For 3 credits, NMR $117, NR $267. But if you read the fine prints it still mentioned NR taking less that 7 credit gets NMR rate.

For the same reason you cannot decide on a program.
