So I guess they aren't proctored anymore. Now there is a link at the end of the exams list for "final exam". I called Penn Foster and both Music and Art appreciation no longer have a proctored exam. I'm wondering if the final exam can be viewed, written down, found and answered from the book at my leisure or if the tests are scrambled or changed when you log out, is there is a time limit? Whats the deal? Can I see the test before I attempt it? I'm afraid to click. How much time do they take? Anybody who's taken the new test format and has any information, please? Thanks everybody! I just want to know what I'm jumping into before I click on that last link!

It's just that class, all of my others have been proctored.

I took Art Appreciation as well and it was proctored so they may be changing stuff. Interestingly enough that link was there then but when I clicked it just gave me some information about the proctored test.

The change was very, very recent, so recent that when I signed up about two weeks ago I was incorrectly told that it was proctored. I am not a degree seeking student at Penn Foster, those seeking a degree are still proctored. I was told the change was literally a day or two before I signed up and it is both classes so I think the changes may prove fairly sweeping.

Huh. Well, if there's one thing I've learned about PF it's that nobody has any clue how things work over there, particularly the people that work there.

All right, well, I'm wingin' it. I'm off-site right now house sitting and I have to choose between a lamp to read my book and speakers for my background music which keeps the fog from overwhelming me during long boring tests. *sigh*

I'm taking the courses in Business Management from PF and so far I haven't had any problems with customer service (and I ask a lot of questions). The finals that I have coming up will all be proctored. I'd expect nothing else.

That is so true. I sent some transcripts over to EC. EC wanted to verify them (random check) it has been over a month and no one from PF will contact them back or reply to the faxes sent by EC. So I am being held up. No one over at PF knows what the hell they are doing; no one wants to even do anything to try to help get the problem solved. Their turn over must be high because the staff are clueless. They give NA degree holders a bad name. I used the credit I got from them over at Clovis and AJU but they are little more than a mill operating under the cover of the DETC which needs to drop them like a rock. A retarded person could pass their classes. You here people classify mills as having no real content, then I would call PF a mill. Nations U was ten times harder than PF and AJU has even more strenuous work than NU. After taking classes at NU and PF, there is no reason why NU should not get DETC in January 2011.

@B4: I don't share most of your complaints, I felt the courses had plenty of content although not especially challenging (but I was intentionally taking blow-off courses). It took enough time and effort for me to complete. That said, the courses are only OK, not awesome. I hate the way the test questions are presented, often termed as objective questions when the very nature of art and music is subjective. If they even added "in the text" before some of their questions I would withdraw this small criticism.

My only significant complaint is the lack of organization. The people are friendly and helpful, it's just that when something changes the information takes a bit to propagate through the staff. There is also the possibility I'm asking the wrong questions, etc.

@sideman: Are you a degree seeking student? I think that may be the reason some have had proctored exams and some have not lately. Perhaps it has to do with when you signed up as opposed to when you actually take the exam. I have no idea, all I know is that these two classes no longer require a proctored exam if taken individually.

    ---------

Took the art final, no problem, passed the class with almost an A (so close), was only shooting for a 75% ^-^. After failing my first test I was spooked but this class is no problem.

    Rickyjo,

Yes I'm going for the associates in marketing. You're probably right that all the degree seeking students have proctored tests.

Oh good, at least that issue is explained.

On a different note: I've always thought that marketing would be an interesting industry. Have you enjoyed it thus far? Also, how much psychology do they require/recommend you take?

Ironically, there are no psyche courses offered. I took psychology and sociology courses many years ago at a B&M so I can certainly see their relevancy. So far its been enjoyable and somewhat challenging for me.

That really surprises me. I bet psychology specifically concerning marketing would prove very interesting and enjoyable!

Yes, I'm sure they do. It's just not required for the associates in marketing.

It is one of a block of 3 electives that a student must choose one from. (Same for all AAS degrees afaik)
Marketing Degree - Training Outline - Penn Foster College
So although not a requirement, anyone who feels interested in taking it certainly can.

On a different note, yesterday I completed my two PFC classes and just need a bit more ALEKS to complete my A.S. (I think).
