    re Gregg

I very pleased with the choices of George, Jack, and Gregg as new moderators. Some are having misgivings about Gregg, and so I would like to express my feelings in connection with him as a moderator.

Gregg and I have disagreed in regard to my little circle of interest- higher Christian Education. He has disagreed with others here on that topic too. But I never once thought that his positions were reached without substantial reflection on the issues involved or that he did not assemble a weighty list of arguments for his view , and at no time, were he then a moderator , do I imagine that banning me or another would be a choice Gregg would make.

Instead I see in Gregg, again in connection with my own particular educational interests, a person who is knowledgeable and who in matters where he is not, wishes to inform himself. I find his words to be seasoned with reason, and I have witnessed that if on reflection he thinks his words over step his reasoning, or if he sees it that the expressions based on that reasoning are too confrontive, that apologies or qualifications by Gregg follow.

This Board is important to me. A few of you know how people here helped me so much both in finding and finishing a suitable degree program, and in personal issues as well as having a son in Iraq and the need for my heart surgery. A few of you also know how despite heated discussions in off topic, in house argumentation with those holding opposing views were eventually forged into respect and friendships. I very much appreciate what degreeinfo is,and wish it to stay that way!

And this is why I am delighted that Gregg has been made a moderator, and I have confidence that he indeed will serve well in that capacity by allowing opportunities for good things ,as these, to continue .

Were this an election, Gregg would have my vote.

    Bill

I don't agree with the choice of moderators, and I'll reserve my particular exception.

However I am pleased that it was not I.

Sort of like being president, a job many people want but few would take if thrust upon them. Half the people love you and almost half hate you.

I think one of the moderators is a circumlocutious bigot, but perhaps he will be able to follow the rules.

    Good luck all.

Oh come on, tell us how you really feel, like using verbose and bloviating. :D

Seriously, sorry you feel this way. I think the choices are good but would have liked Uncle Janko or Tony Pina in one of the positions.

Jack Tracey is a good man, fiesty at times, but that's good for debate and discussion.

George Brown is very knowledgeable about DL.

Greg DesElms is articulate, knowledgeable, and a real asset to DI.
Yea, he's a little windy, but at least there is substance and seriousness there unlike some of my own posts. :D

Of course my opinion of someone is of little consequence. I'ts not my forum, and I'm not paying the bills.

More importantly opinions are subject to change (at least mine are) so today's circumlocutious bigot is tomorrow's erudite zealot.

I have confidence that all of our new moderators will do a fine job. I've had a number of conversations behind the scenes and feel comfortable that everyone understands what is needed (and not needed).

Yes, this can be an extremely unpopular job at times, and there are days that I seriously consider, for example, closing the "political discussions" portion of the board when the conversations get too heated (it has, after all, nothing to do with distance learning). But for the most part, with the exception of the random group of trolls or others who slip through momentarily, it's a good, relatively diverse, and interesting group of people to work with, and generally, people are amenable to being quietly reminded of when they're stepping over the line.

So I trust that as we move forward, the benefit of having more people to watch over the site will outweigh any momentary glitches as everyone gets on the same page.

Thanks, Chip, for your post. Truly, madly, deeply. Now one of you mods go erase the troll. Let the moderators moderate, as Confucius would have said.

I've been on vacation but had to add my own two cents to this thread.

I appreciate all the work and mostly unappreciated pain that Bruce has gone through. I think that the new moderators will continue in the same excellent tradition that has been laid down by their predecessors. I wish to thank you ALL (posters and moderators) for making this a fun and stimulating place!
