After some e-mails with Chip, we agreed that DegreeInfo needed some new moderators. In the beginnning, DI had four moderators....myself, Bill Gossett, and two others that later resigned for personal reasons.

    The traffic on this website has increased significantly since those days, so we decided to make three additional moderators. Two have accepted, and we're waiting to hear back from the third. The two new moderators are;

    1) Gregg DesElms

    2) George Brown

If the third person accepts, I'll announce who it is. If not, we'll ask someone else if they're interested.

I'm sure everyone will join me in welcoming the new moderators, and wishing them luck in their duties.

And, boy, will they need it! :D

    Welcome, new moderators!

Glad to see one of my choices, Gregg DesElms, has accepted.

Gegg and George will be wonderfully fair and impartial.

Congratulations, Gregg DesElms and George Brown on being selected as 2 of 3 New Moderators .

I would have voted for Jimmy Clifton as the 3rd Moderator.

    Best regards,

    Bruce,

Always good to share the load. Adding moderators was the correct decision.

I am not sure how you arrived at this decision. In a public response I don't think it is fair to say who my choices would of been, all I will say is George and Gregg have my support.
It is a very difficult job and requires tact, diplomacy and wisdom. I can honestly say to date that I have agreed with every one of your 'administrative' decisions. I hope George and Gregg show the same balance and discernment.

    Peace,

    Dave C.

Aside from one-off jagoffs like the weekend guest, is there much of moderating raunch to be done?

Walk in the park or, "We who are about to be moderators salute you!"?

In any case, Messrs. DesElms and Brown will be appreciated.

    Very good

    Excellent choice of Gregg DesElms!

    Who is George Brown?

    Just kidding!

Excellent choice, George as well !

I think that George is an excellent choice.

But I don't think that I'm compatible with a board that has placed Gregg in charge. I'm afraid that it's only a matter of time before I'm banned for arguing with a moderator, just as I was on Degreeboard.

(I wonder what Lerner's lifespan will be, and whether participants from Southeast Asia will continue to be welcome here.)

While I'm not exactly resigning from Degreeinfo, I don't expect to be participating nearly as much as I have been.

It was a nice run and I enjoyed it, but times change, I guess. I've earned my DL degree and maybe it's time for me to turn my interests to something else.

    Re: Re: New Moderators

Bruce has worn his two hats well and Gregg will likely do the same. And if he doesn't then he may have to be his first victim. :)

"Gregg, this is Gregg. Now you cut that out, boy, or I may have to ban you."

I am grateful to George and Gregg for being willing to take on the challeges of being a moderator. Knowing the grief that Bruce has taken for his pro-bono efforts, it is nice that there are others willing to step up to the plate. Thanks, George and Gregg.

Bill, I hope that the scenario that you present does not occur. I have enjoyed your posts (and Gregg's too). I know of many instances where DI regulars have disagreed with Bruce (sometimes strongly) and who continue to post today without threat of being banned.

Degreeinfo has terms of service known to anyone who takes the times to read them. Those who willingly violate the TOS risks being banned. It has been a little while since I have looked at the TOS, but I do not believe that debating with a moderator is a violation of the TOS. I am confident that George and Gregg will be fair in their dealings with the rest of us.

    George and Gregg,

    Congratulations!!!

Bill, I'd be lying if I did not admit that was my first thought too. However, after considering Gregg's posts. I have no doubt that he will moderate in the spirit of the terms of service, despite his misguided political beliefs.

I'm pleased to announce that Jack Tracey has accepted the offer to become a moderator, so he's now part of the team.

I think I'm going to take this opportunity for a little vacation time. :D

Hallelujah! For the LORD God omnipotent reigneth!

Bill and Charles: I hope you won't take it amiss if I address your concerns personally. Gregg--like me--is quite a polemicist. But Gregg--like me --has in his work an excruciatingly protocol-conscious sense of what he calls fiduciary responsibility. Gregg and I disagree profoundly on politics and are about as far apart on the spectrum of a religious label as it is possible to get. I have heard this man talk about some of his "real world" responsibilities with what I call without criticism a painful sense of decorum. I am utterly confident that Gregg will apply this same sense to his official responsibilities as a moderator here.

Decimon: re Gregg talking to himself--ROFLMAO!

Bruce: Woo hoo! Triple crown! Dumnezeu but Jack is an excellent choice as the third add-on moderator! Brilliant! My congratulations to the choosers (you and whomever else) for making wise choices--and my very best wishes to Jack in his new responsibilities. You have been like Moses deciding every case on your own. As Jethro told Moses, you deserve some help. Good help is hard to find--but you found it! Have a nice respite.

Gregg, George, and Jack: May God bless you in your new work here at DI.

Excellent choices, all of whom will show a tempered hand. Too explosive a device to be given to the likes of me, of course! ;)

While I have to admit that my first reaction was to wonder darkly how many minutes it would be before Gregg banned Lerner, the reality is that I can easily see all three of our new moderators enforcing the terms of service with proper objectivity.

This was a very good move, and congratulations to Sheriff Bruce's three new deputies. :)
