Its a prerequisite to graduate the masters program I am getting ready to do. It needs to be a total of 6 credits of progamming. It can either be in C or Java and I am pretty sure they want the second class building off the first. I live in md but I want to take these courses online. I am looking for a well structured class preferably in a 8 week or less format. It doesn't have to be however... let me know. I haven't been able to find a site that lets you search all of the schools which would be nice. I know almost every school offers some type of programming class but trying to find one that is highly recommended. Another plus would be to not have any sort of prerequisites to take.

    Hi Chris2010,

I'd recommend my Alma Mater, Hudson Valley Community College. CISS-110 and CISS-111. These are the foundation courses in programming and logic, both are taught using Java. Both are available online 100%, including non-proctored exams, so absolutely no travel required. HVCC is part of the SUNY system, and is a great school. Tuition is at the resident rate if you are taking ONLY online courses and not living in NY. Current tuition + fees is a total of $166.20 per credit hour. Good luck!

Excelsior College offers its programming courses in an 8 week format, and they start every other month, I believe. I haven't taken any courses directly from them yet. I'm getting all I can from HVCC at $166.20/cr while I can. lol! Sorry I can't help you with an all-encompassing course search. I do know that Excelsior has a huge database of courses that enrolled students can search. It covers hundreds of schools all levels, along with pricing info, format, etc..

I tried taking Programming and Logic I a couple of semesters ago.
Most boring class ever. Too slow for me.
Week 4 and we were still learning how to format output that's printed to the screen. You know, convert 98.6 F to ??? C and format the answer to 2 decimal places.
No graphics, just a simple print a line on the screen; 4 weeks.

The good thing is the book covers both courses, 1 and 2, but I just got tired and bored 1/2 way through the first course and quit.
I think the book is also too slow. You don't need 100 pages to tell someone how to write something to the screen.

    Now I'm doing The Game Institute's C++ Moduel 1 and 2
Video Game Education, Video Game Design Course, Video Game Programming Courses
I like it a lot better.

But I think you'll only get credit if you're at Excelsior or Thomas Edison.

    B.N.,
which courses did you take at Athabasca ?
I'm intereseted in taking the database course
COMP 378 Introduction to Database Management
Courses by Subject A-B : Athabasca University

    Chris2010,

I was looking for the same thing and I stumbled onto the Loyola Marymount Extension program. I never knew they had these classes, especially since the college is so close. Also, the prices can't be beat ($115 per class!):
