MSNBC and CNN's ratings cratered after election night. They took it to mean that people were tired of watching criticism of Trump, especially since Fox's ratings went up. They were wrong. If MSNBC had paid a little attention to social media, they would have known that Democratic-leaning voters, especially Black Democratic voters, disliked the media blaming lack of messaging to the working class and identity politics for Harris' loss. Black people make up a sizable portion of MSNBC's audience, and the general consensus among them is that bigotry is the reason why Harris lost. They also dislike that political commentators are ignoring the fact that most Black working class voters voted for Harris. Democrats, in general, also seem to be tired of left-leaning news channels sane-washing and normalizing Trump's words and actions. They partially blame the media for Trump's win. In the past, CNN has been accused of wanting Trump to be in office because it boosts their ratings. Additionally, their CEO recently changed, and he's been called a conservative. MSNBC's Miscalculation The hosts of Morning Joe announced on their show that they visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago to normalize relations with him. My guess is that they thought this would stop the bleeding, but it's made things worse. Morning Joe has been hemorrhaging viewers since the announcement. https://www.yahoo.com/news/msnbc-viewership-craters-38-cnn-000049984.html
For me personally, I watch and read less news since the election. I've seen the Trump chaos machine before and it's a drain on my sanity.
I've heard that, too. I think that's the reason why people started watching Cuomo and Newsom's press conferences during the pandemic. Trump's conferences were chaotic and idiotic, which didn't elicit confidence in his abilities to handle the crisis. Listening Cuomo was more reassuring, and he came across as a strong leader. I know that his conferences calmed my nerves. Too bad Cuomo is also a pervert.
I think they're over-reacting, too. Their audience is primarily made up of Democrats. Democrats, in turn, have been on a roller coaster ride, first with Biden's stumbling, then elation at the thought of replacing him with Harris, ending with the devastation of the return of Trump. As Bill related, a lot of people have pulled away from coverage. Personally I have, but it's not because I don't want to hear criticisms of Trump. It's because I don't want to hear the desperate navel-gazing and self-flagellation going on. I'd just as soon let them go through the stages of grief alone. I'll watch the Trump clown show parts and wait for 2026.
I don't have cable or a cable substitute, such as SlingTV, so I haven't really watched cable news for the past two years. I just see clips in articles and on social media. My smart TV streams BBC, CBS, ABC, NBC and a few other news channels. I used to have a Sling subscription to mainly watch CNN, but the quality of CNN's content went downhill. MSNBC has always put me to sleep.
I watch a little bit of all mentioned and many international ones. And use Yahoo news, Ukraine - Freedom channel, Israel Ch 9, etc. and others. AM talk radio when driving. I know which ones are biased left or right. But its good to have multiple angles. Wars still going on and what happens there affects what happens here.
Not just MSNBC made miscalculation Williams who was a longtime anchor at NBC News and host on MSNBC who left the network in 2021, offered an advice and critique. https://www.yahoo.com/news/brian-williams-democrats-touch-american-153533581.html "News anchor and journalist Brian Williams admonished Democrats for how they handled the 2024 election and said the party had “gone quinoa while the rest of America is eating at Cracker Barrel.” But the major problem for Democrats, the anchor said, is the “insulting” way the party seemingly dismissed voter concerns on issues such as immigration and the economy. “Tell them the NASDAQ is gangbusters in further insulting,” he said. “For the working class to see incoming migrants getting welcome bags, debit cards and motel rooms is probably insulting as well, so there is a lot of work to do.”" ---- Exactly the issues I thought and posted in this forum that the voters will be voting on.
https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/happen-cnbc-msnbc-no-longer-050902164.html Comcast's corporate reorganization means that there will soon be two television networks with “NBC” in their name — CNBC and MSNBC — that will no longer have any corporate connection to NBC News. At MSNBC, questions about the future range from the simple — will it even keep its name? — to the complex. MSNBC's staff and studios are based in the same Rockefeller Center offices as NBC News, and it was unclear on Wednesday whether they will remain or move elsewhere, Lazarus told MSNBC employees.
