    Hello,

I am just curios about the career options that are available to MSM that are not available to MBA and vice versa?

I really like the MS in Management program at Troy State U and I also really like the MBA program at UNA.

IMO, the MSM is geared more towards leadership, while the MBA is geared more towards, uhhhh, business. Additionally, the MSM is a terminal degree, while the MBA is more prepratory for a DBA (not that every MBA graduate wants to get a DBA).

Personally, I would prefer an MSM because it is geared towards leadership.

I would think that an Master of Science in Management (MSM) would be more geared toward a doctorate than an MBA. Generally, an MBA is considered a terminal degree.

Or, more precisely, an MSM should lead to a PhD, whereas a MBA should lead to a DBA. I know there are many universities that do no consider MBA's appropriate preparation for a PhD because of their lack of research-focus.

Thanks for the input guys. However you still did not answer my original question about career options that are available to MSM that are not available to MBA and vice versa.

I would think that it all depends on what courses were taken during the MSM program versus the MBA program. If the courses are roughly the same, I would think the career prospects should be the same.

I hold a B&M MEng in Management Sciences. I studied accounting, finance, marketing, knowledge management, strategic management, etc. When asked by people "what is an MEng in Management Sciences?", I refer to it as a "Techo MBA-like Program" since this is what most people (sadly) understand... they're impressed and we move on to other things....

It all depends on how you present it. An MSM should be no different than an MBA under most circumstances of marketability.

I am kind of concerned that even though the courses in an MSM are similar to the MBA, that the MSM might still not receive the same amount of respect at by employers that an MBA would. I am also concerned that an MSM might not be able to demeaned the same high salary that an MBA would.

they may or may not be true. I think there are many factors to getting higher salaries vs degrees and experience in your relevant field is one of the major factor among others.
