Well, that's one way for Obama to inch closer to keeping his 2008 campaign promise....

I hope he gets taken care of very, very well for what he went through.

Five years as a POW, I can't even begin to imagine. I hope he adjusts well to civilian life back home.

    How'd he get "captured"?

Definitely an interesting scenario. I'm reading reports now that he abandoned his post, and that he wasn't actually captured at all. I can't say what's true, though.

Those were the stories I heard back in 2010-2011 as well. Just some inside rumblings and I would go so far as to say he did, actually, abandon his post.

Here's a 2012 article from Rolling Stone that gives you some background on Bowe and his family.

Regardless of why he was captured, I'm glad he's back. If they need to adjudicate a case against him, fine. Do it. But it has no bearing on whether we should have swapped for him.

And yes, we released some very bad people. But we were holding them without trial. Either they were criminals who should be prosecuted and punished, or they were POWs who should be released now that the "war" is over. We can't--and shouldn't have it both ways. It's un-American.

Yeah, I agree. I can't imagine what his parents were going through as well as him. I'm starting to see this going on political lines (as everything always does sadly) but for now glad he's back.

Well said. Besides, even the Israelis do prisoner swaps, and they're not exactly known for being softies.

    So lame. So very un-American.

Some very bad people (I can only assume these were the kind of very bad people who would strap on explosives, walk into a crowded complex, then detonate the explosives killing innocent men, women and children; you know, like terrorists) were caught, detained and incarcerated. They were being held without trial.

Yes, by doing this the US military personnel were probably worse than the Islamic terrorists and should be punished themselves.

Forget about it! The administration need to focus on the next mission.

This clearly isn't what he was saying. You, on the otherhand  I'm disappointed to find out that you think being better than Islamic terrorists is an accomplishment worth celebrating. You know who else is better than Islamic terrorists? Lots of terrible people. That's who.
