I think the school might have a hard time gaining legitimate accreditation when it only has 3 faculty members.

That, and the fact their president now devotes a huge portion of his time to accusing the "College's" original sponsoring diocese, religious institute, as well as the main private highschool who would have fed them students, of all being in on a massive pedophilia conspiracy.

And he wins the award for the "ugliest vest in Pennsylvania" contest.

ROTFLMAO! I'll call it now since I know many of the parties
involved. Although not a DL school, in terms of controversy,
lawsuits backfiring and whatnot, SJMC is potentially is going to
MIGS within the Catholic higher education system. Stay tuned...

But with only one student, three faculty will comprise a very effective doctoral committee. ;)

Actually, this may not be far from the truth. I just discovered that a major competitor among conservative Catholic education is opening up an East Coast campus a mere four hours from SJMC. Campion College, the competitor, offers a similar programme as SJMC, and while also unaccredited at this point, Campion has the following going for it:

    1) Over $100,000 in scholarship money.

    2) The backing of Fr. Fessio, the founder of the respected Ignatius Press and the Ignatius Institute at the RA accredited jesuit university in San Francisco.

    3) The faculty from the recently disbanded Ignatius Institute who are experienced teaching at the previously mentioned RA university.

    4) The majority of the allumni of the Ignatius Institute who are pissed off at SFU for disbanding their alma mater for what is perceived as political reasons.

    5) The strong backing of a Curial Cardinal who is a well-respected theologian and was personally entrusted by Pope John Paul II with overseeing the composition of the Catholic Church's official catechism.

    6) The aggresive pursuit of regional, as opposed to national, accreditation of their two-year programme.

    7) A transfer agreement with at least three RA Catholic universities, as well as a respected GAAP Catholic university in Europe.

Being a conservative Catholic, I initially supported the founding of both institutes, and also knew many of the parties associated with both colleges. In fact, I had privately raised the topic of possibly adding a DL component (since both are residential) to individuals affiliated with each institute when they began, and offered my support as a canon lawyer. Both began with great promise, and I'm extremely dissapointed that SJMC is now MIGSing out since it showed great promise when it was founded. Ah well, I guess I'll shill out on Campion College, and direct those on the East Coast looking for a good liberal arts programme from a conservative Catholic perspective to go there.

  9. John's not jealous -- he has the "ugliest vest in California" title. His full title: John Bear, PhD UVIC.
