I mentioned in a previous thread about Regent's free online courses for students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. I wanted to also point folks to a multi-institution effort coordinated by the Sloan Consortium, the Southern Regional Education Board, and the Alfred P. Sloan foundation called the Sloan Semester which aims to bring free online courses to students displaced from colleges shut down due to damage from Hurricane Katrina.

In a nutshell, selected regionally accredited institutions affiliated with Sloan-C or SREB will offer an accelerated 8-week semester beginning in October to provide a wide range of courses to serve the learning needs of students at the community college, university and graduate level, regardless of academic discipline. All courses will be offered fully online and tuition-free (although students will be responsible for books and other course materials) and students can take courses from multiple colleges to meet their needs.

Students interested in finding out more about the program and the free courses can do so at www.SloanSemester.org
