Dodgers clinch back-to-back World Series as Blue Jays downed in thriller! https://sports.yahoo.com/article/dodgers-clinch-back-back-world-045529917.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall The Los Angeles Dodgers conjured a stunning come-from-behind victory to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 and clinch back-to-back World Series on Saturday in one of the greatest Major League Baseball championship deciders in history. A night of jaw-dropping drama at Toronto's Rogers Centre saw the reigning champions stave off defeat with a game-tying home run from Miguel Rojas in the ninth inning before Will Smith's home run in the 11th inning put the Dodgers into the lead.
I'm an American football fan. I'm not a baseball fan, at all, not even a little. I tried in the 90s but just couldn't do it. I caught game 6 and 7 of this World Series. It was incredible. Now I wonder about how much I've been missing out on all of these years, lol.
I assume the trash can reference is referring to their 2017 Championship year where the Astros communicated the catcher signals being sent to the pitcher by banging on a trashcan in the dugout so the batter would know the signal? But what is it supposed to mean in the context that you fellows are using it?
Tireman mentioned he's an Astros fan, and hopes they win the World Series in 2026, I was teasing him that they'll need to pull out the trash cans again (cheat) to do that. Totally good-natured, my team is the Red Sox, and their manager (Alex Cora) was part of the Astros trash can-banging crew.
Well, it's not as if they're playing actual baseball. Real baseball doesn't have any kind of DH rule.
You'll have to go to Japan to find that now, the DH has been universal in MLB (and the minors & college) since 2022. I actually liked the AL and NL being completely separate (no interleague play, separate umpires) with the AL having the DH and the NL not having it. The World Series (and even the All-Star Game) seemed more special and somehow better when it was like that. It forced the AL teams with outstanding DH's (2004 Red Sox with David Ortiz) to make serious adjustments in NL parks.
Designated Hitter rule is a moral issue? Now I was used to no DH. That's from being a San Diego Padre fan, no DH. I still wish they would get rid of the DH but it sure looks like that will never happen.
I like small ball and clean defense, so I do lament some of the rule changes over the last few years that have been deliberately skewed to favor big offensive moments.
Yes, a moral issue! This isn't football with all its "specialty teams". Though I did see that both the Dodgers and the Jays were sporting corporate adverts on their uniforms. Truly, standards have slipped!
Worse! They were Financial Services companies' ads. Yeah, I wonder whether those millionaire players used those particular banksters. Bet not.
