This pic was taken by a friend who recently visited a hospital.
As he was walking to the entrance he was greeted by a security robo-guard.

    "
Ken Keller, the hospital's chief operating officer, said the robot, which is programmed to say a friendly "Hello" to anyone it meets in the lot, includes a security button people can push to summon the facility's human security officers.

"It's here for three reasons: safety, security and surveillance," Keller told KBAK/KBFX. "It's here to augment our security officers and give them the ability to be more hands on with patients and families."

Keller said the robot will soon be able to take oral commands in English and Spanish.

The hospital is currently holding a contest on its Facebook page to name the robot." image000000(6).jpg

That looks exactly like the police robot that told a woman to go away when she tried to report a crime. :D

I'm tempted to post the ED-209 malfunction scene from RoboCop....

"You now have fifteen seconds to comply!"

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/shocking-video-shows-chinese-robot-171224466.html

"A Chinese military contractor created a video showing off its terrifying new military technology, revealing a robot attack dog that can dropped off by a drone.

The video that was initially released on the verified Weibo account of "Kestrel Defense Blood-Wing," a page affiliated with a Chinese defense contractor, shows a drone hovering over a building and then dropping off a robot on the roof. After the drone flies away, the robot gets up on four legs and then begins to scan for targets around the building with what appears to be some sort of automatic weapons attached to its back.

According to a report from WarZone, the weapon mounted on the robot dog is possibly a Chinese QBB-97 light machine gun, which is capable of firing 650 rounds per minute at an effective range of 400 meters."

I'm not convinced that the robo dog is strong enough to remain upright if it actually has to fire the gun. Guns can have quite a lot of kickback, and even humans sometimes have issues.

The gun is on his back; he's on all fours while firing - that helps a LOT. His "paws" may also have a method of "digging in." I wouldn't want to be the one in his line of fire, to test this! I think he could take out humans easily. That's what he's carefully designed for. His creators weren't fooling. Recoil is probably the first thing they thought about.

Interesting you mentioned recoil, I think the US robo war dog had problem with the recoil that its not accurate yet.
Maybe this changed since I read about it.

He's some ugly colour for a dog! Glad he's friendly!

There's an old song called "Yellow Dog Blues." It's about the Yazoo Delta Railroad in Mississippi, colloquially called the "Yellow Dog." It runs through Moorhead MS, which is the site of what used to be called Sunflower Junior College, now Delta Community College. There - I knew I could work Education into this! :)

There's another, MUCH later song , too:

Well she wears short shorts and rock and roll shoes
Gotta see her dance to the
yellow dog blues... (Queen of the Hop - Bobby Darin, 1958)

I was 15 then and I really liked that song. Still do. Bobby was great. He left us far too soon.

Wow! Realism! Latest in AI, no doubt. Was the robot having coffee and a donut when he said this? :(
