I just completed my courses for the Fall semester at Liberty University. I am starting to contemplate doing a dual MS in Accounting and MBA (general) at Liberty instead of MBA in Accounting.

For the MBA in Accounting, I need eight additional courses (two semesters) and complete the degree by August 2012.

If I go the MSA/MBA route, I will need between four to five courses and finish the MSA by May 2012, and then take an additional six courses to complete my MBA in December 2012. I just don't know if it is worth taking an additional four classes.

There is also a possibility I might do the MSA with Liberty and complete the MBA at Texas A&M Commerce, since I recently relocated to Plano, Texas, but I won’t qualify for resident tuition until Sept 2012.

You might run into a problem here:

From the LU graduate catalog p. 86:

That is true, but I was told that I can petition to have the courses added. Just last year, the same was said from MBA to MSA. This year, Liberty starting allowing two courses taken from MBA to be transferred to MSA. I was told they are looking to doing the same for MSA to MBA. In the meantime, I can petition to have two courses from MSA to MBA. There are no guarantees, and if Texas A&M - Commerce decides to allow me to pay in-state tuition, I might go there after MSA.

Joe, what do you want to do with the degree(s)?

I'm a big proponent of diversifying your resume; I think the dual degrees would make you a lot more marketable for both employment and teaching opportunities.

If I stay with the same company, I might want to transfer into the finance dept from claims. I noticed the company substitutes 1 year exp = AA in Acct, 2 years for BS in Acct and 3 years for MS in acct. One side of my brain says to get the MBA in Acct and study for CIA exam, other side says to get both MSA/MBA (general)
