    Hi Everyone,

    I am brand new to the forum but have been reading resources for quite a while so please pardon me if I accidentally post this in the wrong area but this seemed to be the best option for my question. I am having issues finding some solid answers from universities on this matter so thought maybe someone here might have some insight. Here is my dilemma:

    Bachelors in Computer Information Systems - Nationally Accredited (Grad. Jun 2009)
    Masters in Business Administration - NOT AACSB Accredited (Grad. Expected May 2011 from UOPX)

    Teaching = ?
    PhD = ?

    I have over 10 years experience with the military and my government job in the field of handling business practices as well as my computer security background so experience is not a factor.

    1. This is what I am trying to find out. I have not tossed out the idea of being a teacher (specifically in a computer security or science program) so I am curious if me possessing my MBA from a non-AACSB school is going to hurt me in teaching? I'm achieving my MBA for career advancement in my current job.

    2. If I was going to get my PhD (specifically for being a teacher and career advancement), where would be the best place to attend that would take my degree? I understand that UOPX might cause me some issues in applying and getting into some PhD programs. Would the school I choose need to be AACSB accredited for me to teach?

    Any and all guidance you guys might be able to provide is greatly appreciated.

    In answer to your questions, I first have to make sure that you know that we're all just guessing. It might be educated guessing but it's still guessing. A non-AACSB might not get you into a teaching position at an AACSB accredited school. Mediating points: If you live or are willing to travel to a less populated/less popular area this might diminish the effect. Also, If you are able to create a record of scholarly publication this might also lessen the effect. But an non-AACSB MBA is probably not going to get you a teaching job at any college in Boston, New York, Chicago, LA, etc. because there's too much competition. I think that's why there's been so much interest these past few years in the idea of earning DBA degrees. It's MBAs trying to separate themselves from the pack. One thing you'll have to decide is whether your doctoral degree will be in the area of Business (DBA/PhD) or in the area of Education (EdD/PhD).

    BTW, I know it's a stupid question to ask but I'm curious about whether you're related to Trevor Veitch.

    As you are interested in Computer Security, I would suggest a PhD in Information Systems. Most Information Systems teaching positions put more emphasis on experience and certifications. I believe that a Doctorate from a school like Nova or South Dakota can do the trick. The AACSB is not a real issue if you concentrate in Information Systems as most schools hire computer science or IS graduates that are normally not part of business schools.
    I would suggest a CISSP certification on top of your PhD.

    No one has mentioned the elephant in the room: the UOP degree.

    UOP degrees are not very respected in academia. You may not be able to find a teaching position because of this.

    If you are not too far in your program, I would suggest looking for another MBA program, honestly.
