    Hello Guys!! I have a question that I hope someone can help me with.
    I am interested in getting my Master's in Criminal Justice. I looked at Aspen and think that is a great school, price wise and accreditation wise. My problem is the timeline they have to complete courses. I work two jobs and know that is going to be difficult.
    So my quesiton is this: Is there a state approved for issuing degrees (bare minimum) DL school that is affordable like Aspen (or less :) ), with less time constraints for completing the courses, that offers Master's in criminal justice???? Not a diploma mill, but a respectable school with maybe accrediation on the horizon. I know this is a long shot, but I had to try.

    I really appreciate it guys!!

    Hi Dillon, New Mexico State University (nmsu.edu) has a good Master of Criminal Justice program that is fully online. All NM state schools offer in state tuition if you are enrolled in 6 credits or less. The cuurent graduate tuition is $242 per credit hour plus $25 per credit hour as an online fee. The time limit to complete the program is seven years.

    Good luck, Nikki

    What is your purpose of getting this degree? I don't see much utility in an unaccredited degree in CJ.

    Hey guys! I am not in a rush. That's the thing. I need a lot of time to complete the courses because of my jobs, family, etc...If the courses are regionally accredited or DETC Accredited, there are some pretty tight guidelines on how long you can complete a course. I have a NA Bachelor's and I work in a field that I probably should have a Master's in CJ or above, just based on what I know and have learned. I am just looking for a well established school that is a t least state approved (which I know doesnt mean too much), that is not a mill, but respectable and offers Master's in CJ! Oh, and did I mention affordable??

    Are you wanting something that will allow you to complete a course at your own pace instead of the traditional 16 week semester/8 week term etc? Are you basically looking for independent study where you work at your own pace or am I misunderstanding this?

    I am not sure of your question, but if I understand it correctly, yes, I want to work at my own pace for my Master's without the trad 8/16 week design, which is what most accredited schools require.

    Sorry Nikkita, I didnt see a question in your original post, I only saw one in eilla05. Yes, one course would work at a time as long as it is not restricted by time constraints and $$$!!
    Thanks!

    SHSU does have one of the best CJ programs in the country, but it should be noted that the online degree is tailored for managers in the CJ system (senior supervisors, police chiefs), so it focuses more on the management side of things than the CJ/Criminology approach. Still a great program, but something to keep in mind.

    Bruce,

    Thanks for the clarification as regards the SHSU MS in CJ Leadership & Management.
    Another potential option for consideration, though not specifically CJ:

    College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology at Prairie View A&M University offers a fully
    web-based Master of Science in Juvenile Justice (MSJJ).
    MS Juvenile Justice

    Also the University of Cincinnati offers an online MSCJ. I’ve heard it’s a well regarded CJ program (e.g., a Top 3 Criminal Justice School in the nation (U.S. News & World Report, 2010).

    There are 3 top CJ programs that offer a Master's degree via distance learning;

    Cincinatti - UC's Masters in Criminal Justice Degree Program Online

    Michigan State - Masters Program| The School of Criminal Justice | Michigan State University

    Florida State - On-line master's degree (distance learning) : Florida State University College of Criminology & Criminal Justice

    Also, I'm a bit biased, but the Master's program at UMass-Lowell is rated one of the best in the country by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, although they don't have a doctoral program at this time;

    UMass-Lowell - Online Criminal Justice Masters Degree

    That’s (bit biased) understandable; and why not … :smile:
