Which colleges majors do people regret? https://www.cnbc.com/2019/12/05/the-top-10-college-majors-american-students-regret-the-most.html
It's interesting that English majors have appeared at the top of the biggest regret survey. English is a very flexible degree in terms of career opportunities. You just need to add some concrete certifications in order to enjoy the benefits. The survey also finds that it hard to find a job with a science or social sciences degree. You must engage in further studies, or obtain various licenses and certifications. That seems to be the problem across the broad. All that really shows is that you typically need more than a degree in order to succeed in the workplace. But the anti-humanities sentiment has also appeared in Poland. It might become a self-fulfilling prophecy in the sense that employers will actually start believing that these are worthless degrees and this will be reflected in the hiring process.
Many students add minor or double major in addition to the English major. Also, it can be a good degree for someone who wants to teach. As mentioned a certification and additional skills. Some employers love degreed candidates with humanities etc, an English major. As one CEO of top corporation stated " We can train a person but we don't have time to educate a person/employee" this was his and C level board preferences for grooming future executives.
I went for social sciences specifically because of how flexible it was, full well knowing there isn't a well paying job I can find with just the BA. I don't know what expectations other people have, but unless you get other qualifications, or plan on getting a Master's degree, social sciences majors aren't going to get you anywhere further than the old proverbial check-in-the-box.
