Any suggestions on inexpensive accredited schools (D.E.T.C.) or RA with Masters programs in counselling? Doesn't matter if the school is foreign or US.

    Thanks

Hello Davide - I don't know where you're posting from or what your goals for this degree might be but your choice of programs may matter if you plan on ever becoming licensed in the US. This is a subject that has been discussed numerous times on this forum and so you might do well to use the sites search function to read these discussions. At the same time you can also check out the programs at:
    Antioch University
    CIIS
    Seton Hall
    Good luck,
    Jack

    Dear Jack:

Thanks, but non-U.S. schools would actually be better for me. I'm from Canada, so unfortunately they are quite picky regarding US schools as individual provinces determine recognition or non-recognition of particular programs. Since US accreditation is a complex matter, most provinces are leary to comment on the credibility of a particular US school without the transcipts in front of them. As for me, I love US schools. They have fantastic offerings. I'm really just interested in an accredited program, very inexpensive, and non-residency if possible.

    Thanks again.

OK, in that case try these Australian schools:
    Charles Sturt U
    Monash U
    U of Melborne
    U of South Australia
    U of Southern Queensland

There are number of distance programs in that have CORE accreditation and seem to have some recognition in Canada. A short list includes: San Diego State, utah State, University of North Texas, and Virginia Commonwealth University. These are all degrees in rehabilitation counseling, but are very versitile.

    Don't forget Capella University!

    Davide,
Don't forget to check out Capella University. They have counseling programs under two schools depending what you want to go into:

    1) School of Human Services

    2) School of Psychology

    Check them out at

    www.capella.edu

Just in case you might be interested. Capella is about half way in seeking CACREP accreditation, which in the USA is the highest standard in Masters level programs for professional counseling and licensure.

    Hope that helps.

I forgot the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Very Flexible...standard fees...employment focused. Dr. Larry Dickerson is the Chair.

You might want to visit http://www.abcounsellored.net/, which is a joint offering of the University of Lethbridge, the University of Calgary, and the Athabasca University. They do have practica which as of today are only held in Alberta. You might want to visit the website, and the email the programme at [email protected]

I wish that I had better news for you.

Someone mentioned Capella -- a great school, but you want inexpensive - that Capella is not.

Try Fort Hayes State University in Kansas and Liberty University has one of the better (ok, so I studied there) counseling programs around.

    Good Luck.
