(Reuters) - Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry on Wednesday signed into law a bill that makes the state the only one in the country to require displaying the Ten Commandments in every public school classroom.

The American Civil Liberties Union immediately announced it would sue to block the law, saying it violates the constitutional separation of church and state and a U.S. Supreme Court ruling.

There are many ways that Louisiana's policymakers could improve their state's bottom-tier public schools.

This is not one of them.

I will be surprised if this law doesn't get overturned. Just a little surprised. For example, I'll be more surprised if the court rules 9 to 0 to overturn.

This post shows how poorly I think of SCOTUS now compared to three years ago.

While I understand religion vs state, vs education, I personally think that the posting of the Ten Commandments in schools, would be a wonderful step in building character of our kids.
But I can do this at home, without imposing on rights of others. There are good moral teachings in other religions.
Many Public schools include religions of the world in coriculum, some in Literature classes etc.
Public schools have tho serve all the public.

What is Louisiana going to do about being so poor and ranking nearly last in every category? They're in a constant battle with Mississippi for being the most backwards.

In Louisiana where the Ten Commandments are on display in schools, it seems ‘Thou shalt not fall behind’ was left off the tablets.

exaggerated drawl Y'all hold my beer and watch this. Was Landry inauguration speech! If you think Landry's bad, you ain't seen nothin' yet compared to our parish politics.

Out in the backwoods, it ain't what you know, it's whose daddy you know that gets you jobs. Every application asks "Whose ya daddy?" 'Cause nepotism and old boy networks run thicker than gumbo round here!

Now I ain't sayin' we're corrupt. We just have a "unique" way of ensuring the same families run the political playgrounds for generations. It's tenure...with extra roux.

So grab a hurricane and some gator courtbouillon, folks. With Landry in charge, you're in for four years of Louisiana-style hilarity that'll make an airboat chase look tame. Reform? Hold my Abita and watch this goat rodeo!

    Time of the season
