While checking online for Phd programs, I stumbled upon this website that shows some schools that do not require the GRE for admissions. Some of the schools are online programs and others are in class.

PhD Programs – No GRE Required | What You Make of It.

I myself am looking into the Social Welfare PhD Program offered by CUNY. Just thought this list might be helpful to some.

The British Universities typically don't require GRE scores, right? Isn't the GRE mostly an American/Canadian thing?

We have not heard as much about the GRE as the SAT/ACT in terms of controversy. Actually, I have heard nothing about grad level tests. The SAT/ACT were in the news about a year ago and then recently over whether they are good predictors of success. I suppose a similar case could be made for the GRE.

I imagine in competitive programs it is seen as one factor in determining who gets in. Some people are not test takers. I know a very intelligent woman who knows her field but does not do well on tests.

Does Canada use the GRE (LSAT, etc)?

There are two aspects to this as it applies to any given school. The first is simply, is the GRE (or the GMAT) required as a part of the application package? The second is, how is it used? It may be required but given low priority as to it's importance in the admission decision. I know sometimes people don't test well but I think that sometimes that's a matter of test anxiety and that the GRE is really nothing to be nervous about.
