The story names it as Templeton University, supposedly in Charlotte NC.

There's a website by that name that claims in broken English that: "We are in accrediting the CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) under the US Department of Education."

The website includes this text: "In addition, the university's courses are approved by the Federal Government as the State's Higher Education Council regular course, and T.S.A. of Southern Accreditation. And AAATI Member University."

The Korean news story says this: "The students, who had paid an average of 4 million won per semester, expressed fury and disbelief." Is that consistent with the information in the links below (which include links to Templeton University's IRS form 990's)?

In addition, Templeton University seems to have some kind of mysterious relationship with something called Henderson Christian University.

They don't sound a whole lot different than here in the United States. I believe that every state requires some kind of state approval to operate a degree-granting university. Operating one without the necessary approvals is usually some kind of offense.

The difference is that the Koreans enforced their law in this case. That's probably because of the scandal when one of their Presidential candidates claimed a degree from this school.

I'm generally in favor of state's rights, until the states ignore their responsibilities to protect the citizens. Allowing schools to open with little or no oversight, to me, is ignoring that responsibility.
