The concession speech of Senator John Forbes Kerry was very gracious and conciliatory. I was impressed and moved by his words and emotions. In a tough moment, he showed honor and integrity.

Senator John Edwards, on the other hand, was feisty, belligerent, divisive, and displayed no honor or integrity. He was basically setting the stage for his 2008 run.

This morning I developed respect for Senator Kerry and wish him well. He fought hard, conceded graciously, and proved himself a true American and patriot!

You should have heard Nancy Pelosi's speech.

He better be gracious, or Bush will have him commanding a swiftboat on the Tigris.:D

Yeah, I agree that Kerry made a good concession speech. I was a little moved too.

Of course, this isn't an obituary. Kerry's still a Senator and I'm sure that he will be active in Democratic party politics for years to come.

I disagree with Jimmy about Edwards. He wasn't as mournful as Kerry, but I like that about him. He seems like one of the Democratic party's bright young faces and I expect that he will be heard from again as well.

The Dems have lost an important battle but neither they nor the things they stand for are defeated. They need to regroup, reasess and then continue on.

That's the way the system works. The country needs them.

So, Jimmy, is this a conciliatory statement while basking in the glow of victory (congratulations, by the way), or is Kerry still a war criminal? Perhaps he was only a war criminal when he had a chance to be President?

    C'mon now, be honest. ;)

    Hi Tom,

The campaign is over and it's time to move forward. Kerry came across in his concession speech as a statesman, not a politician. He showed emotion and I think for the first time, what he said really came from the heart. There were no soundbites or rehearsed words. I developed a great admiration for him today.

As far as his being a war criminal, if he did what he said he did, I would still say he is but, as I said, it's time to move forward wishing him and his family well and God's blessings.

    Jimmy,
I think we all know that if Kerry had even an iota of a chance at a winnable lawsuit, or a delay tactic that had any chance of succeeding he would not have been so concilatory. The fact is the man was a jerk, is a jerk, and I can only pray will one day repent of being such a jerk.

  8. "Jerks" is apparently a topic with which you are intimately familiar, as evidenced by your post....

    Carl,
Coming from you, I'll take that as a compliment!

    Thanks,

  10. Fair enough!

By the way, we probably are not as far apart on issues as it may seem from our postings on this board.... Best wishes to you and the things you believe so strongly in....

(See, this is the "new spirit of conciliation" coming from the left....) ;)

I'm not sure many on here were as strong for Bush as I, but I think Kerry acted in a statesman-like fashion during his concession speech, Barry.

I am not sure any candidate wouldn't have initiated a lawsuit if a chance to win were feasible.

I compare Kerry's actions to Gore's and find Kerry much more a gentleman than Gore.

No, I don't like Kerry's politics. Yes, I think he was a "flip flopper," but, as I said, he acted like a gentleman and he should be respected for that.

    Hi Jimmy,
We'll just have to agree to disagree. While Kerry was making his speech he was trying to preach to Bush about uniting, not dividing, while he himself has been the most divisive figure on the political scene. I'm glad he made a nice speech -- I just don't buy any of it.

Yes, we will. And what a great testament to our wonderful, free society, that people can live in harmony and have differences of opinion, even when on the same side.

I notice, Barry, Minnisota almost went to Bush. As a matter of fact, PA, WI, and MI, all big swing states, almost swung to Bush. Bush lost these states anywhere from one to three points.

Yes Jimmy -- almost, but not quite. I was really hoping it would happen. With a Republican Governor, and a Republican Senator, who knows what might happen in the future? I'm almost sure that joke Mark Dayton will be voted out of office for any number of reasons, including the fact that he is afraid to go to his own office in Washington!

Minnesota is really an odd duck, politically speaking. I've been here over five years and I really can't figure it out.
