Why is anyone surprised at this poll? Bill never received more than 49% of the vote in either election.

As for Kerry, he's simply pandering to the wacko Left. He knows there won't be a filibuster, but to keep the extreme Left happy and the money flowing, he has to posture like this.

I think that is their main problem. Most of the money, especially since campaign finance reform, is coming form left wing groups. That is the reason that wacko screamer Dean is in charge. Moveon.org made it real clear that if he didnt get the spot that they would pull their money. Another problem with 527s is they are fairly uncontrollable and very emotional. They are not prone to making rash decisions and tend to make the Democrates look like crybabies or screaming liberals...

I rather like the Leninist/red star imagery - the Democrats would actually do better with that stuff right up front than pretending to be a bunch of "lite Republicans". After all, Miller Lite sucks, and so do Demo Lites.....

Considering the fate of Social Security reform, how much the prescription drug benefit will cost, and the lack of any real tax reform, I'd say many of the Democrats' ideals are alive and well.

I hear that the DNC handbook is actually an improved revision of the RNC handbook. You know, the one where 99% of the facts are made up 100% of the time?

    Re: Kerry

If coming back from Vietnam a decorated war hero is what it takes to qualify for "losing your mind" in your book, then I believe John Kerry is in very good company.

What excuse does President Bush have for losing his mind? One thing is certain - it wasn't the result of honorable service to his country during a very trying period of this nation's history.

As a Marine Veteran, I find the continued denegration of Kerry (or any person's) service to be reprehensible. Yes, Kerry, just like any other politician can make stupid statements, but I don't see how their military service has anything to do with it.

This goes for all. I found the same treatment of McCain to be disgusting to me in 2000.

    Hi Bink

If you do that universally to heros, others like Kerry with a possibly questionable record, and those without any record it seems very fair. It is hard for me personally to consider Kerry's 90 days of service to say much positive about him.

John Kerry made his military service a focal point of his campaign. The fact that it wasn't quite as honorable as he wanted you to believe is no one's fault but his own.

    Losing his mind

Relax, I was referring to his criticism of his fellow soldiers and NOTHING will ever change my mind about this. I have almost forgiven Fonda for her idiotic antics during the war but not completely.

Stop being so righteous. My dad was a war hero who supported his country and fellow servicemen without fail. He was not naive to think that all was rosy and that done correctly but he always remembered those that he had left behind.

He passed away a while back but I know that he would be turning in his grave to hear a presidential candidate denigrate a fellow serviceman or even comment on what he had heard or seen.

He expected as do I, that our war heros to be supportive of their fellow soldiers under ALL circumstances.

Many soldiers lost their lives for this idiot to come back stand on a podium and show anything but support.

I would say the same thing about Bush if HE acted like Kerry.

And....I never said anything about Bush being a decorated war hero or not losing HIS mind as well so don't bring THAT into the thread.

    Re: Losing his mind

That's all well and good - but I commend Kerry for not supporting "fellow soldiers" who liked to collect the ears and other body parts of their enemies as trophies of war.

That is supporting unnecessary barbarism in an already barbarous situation (i.e., war itself). Would you also support those brave Japanese soldiers who, after the fall of Nanking, decided to rape and/or torture most of the remaining population? Or would you have stood alone as a voice of humanity against atrocity?

    Re: Re: Re: Re: Kerry

I wasn't denegrating his service. I was expressing my indifference to the reason he has supposedly "lost his mind". Like you, I don't think his service has anything to do with how he operates as a politician. It's only an issue when he brings it up.

One thing I would like to add though about his "hero" status. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. I don't know. But one thing that I've found over the years is that you never really know who the true heros are because they don't go around telling everyone about it.
