Kean University and NJCU Sign Definitive Merger Agreement to Launch Kean Jersey City, this is from last month...

So, Kean University and NJCU are merging plus launching with a new name... Kean Jersey City, that's the name of the new university, seems like a bold move to merge, but I guess it was needed to bolster enrollment for both institutions and have their programs aligned properly.

I know Jersey City for its Civil Security—Leadership, Management and Policy (CSLMP), D.Sc. online program.

Fun fact: Kean is pronounced Cane, not Keen.

Kean Jersey City is a peculiar name. Why don't they drop the word "CITY" to make Kean Jersey University (KJU)?

I really don't care for that new name.....

I know it's not a strict rule but if Kean is pronounced cane instead of keen then wouldn't it be better that it was instead spelled Kaen instead of Kean?

True for many English words - they are not pronounced like they are spelled. Kean is a surname in this case.

English spelling doesn't deserve the ortho- in orthography. Its list of "wouldn't it be better if..." could reach all the way to the Moon!

Absolutely! I had to take a foreign language class in college. I went to the first day of French class. I decided that French spelling was probably even more messed up than English spelling and switched to Spanish. :)

Just change the order to fix the problem, KEAN becomes KANE. I thought Duquesne University was the only university with a pronunciation problem.

If it changed “Jersey City” to “Jersey” it would distance the name from the local community (Jersey City is a specific city, the second-largest in the state), and there’s a cost to that. When the University College of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia was about to receive full university status in 2004, their board initially voted to use the name Breton University. The local community in Cape Breton pushed back strongly, and the school relented and became Cape Breton University instead.

No one who lives or works in "Joy-zee" gets to tell me anything regarding pronunciation of the English language...

I looked at the Northeastern program when it was first announced, the information packet should come with an application for a second mortgage in order to pay for it, it's absurdly expensive.

It looks geared towards established executives where their companies are going to pick up most or all of the costs, which is the only way I personally could justify that kind of expense.

It is expensive. Northeastern is a top research university. My country's (Jamaica) prime minister earned his DLP there in 2024. He is the first head of government to earn a doctorate degree while serving in office.
