Again, taking anything this administration says at face value is a willful mistake.

    Time will show,
I think usually Federal charges are not brought lightly; prosecutors must present credible evidence to a grand jury.
Court documents (indictments, affidavits) detail the evidence and are a matter of public record.

What do we know so far:
There is credible evidence supporting the charges against Yunqing Jian and Zunyong Liu for smuggling a dangerous biological pathogen, specifically the fungus Fusarium graminearum, into the United States. According to federal court documents and affidavits:
U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted Liu at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and found four plastic bags containing the fungus concealed in a bundle of tissues inside his backpack.
Initially, Liu denied knowledge of the samples, but later admitted he had deliberately hidden them, knowing they were restricted, and planned to use them for research at the University of Michigan laboratory where Jian worked.
The fungus in question is recognized as a serious threat to crops and is described in scientific literature and by federal authorities as a potential "agroterrorism weapon," capable of causing significant agricultural and economic harm.
The investigation is being conducted by the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and both individuals face charges of conspiracy, smuggling, false statements, and visa fraud.
Statements from the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office, as well as the evidence outlined in the criminal complaint, substantiate the seriousness of the case and the credibility of the allegations.

U.S. authorities classify Fusarium graminearum as a potential agroterrorism weapon because of its ability to decimate crops and disrupt food supplies on a national scale.

The case is serious because it involves the illegal import of a regulated pathogen, but it is not on the same level as introducing a completely new, exotic threat.
The main issue here is the circumvention of biosafety protocols,
The severity of smuggling Fusarium graminearum into the United States is far greater than smuggling an animal like a panda(lets say they study pandas), and the reasons are rooted in agricultural, economic, and public health risks, with far-reaching consequences for agriculture, food safety, and national security.

Correct, that’s what I said. It is not the same as terrorism.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-reports-another-arrest-chinese-190249176.html

"US reports another arrest of Chinese scientist with no permit to send biological material.
The scientist was interviewed and arrested Sunday after arriving on a flight from China, where she is pursuing an advanced degree at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan."She planned to spend a year completing a project at the University of Michigan.

They just show a pictures of the fungi from last time and wont even say what it was other than it being a worm.

Wuhan has alot of universities and labs. I know people on the right have this conspiracy about Covid-19, so I suspect you are trying to play into that fear and xenophobia.

Lab-leak theory hasn't been ruled out.

Most mainstream scientists favor the wet-market zoonotic spillover based on epidemiological, genetic, and ecological evidence.
Lab-leak remains plausible according to several intelligence and government bodies—but lacks direct virological proof due to limited access WIV data.
Both theories remain under investigation. Major obstacles include limited access to WIV data, incomplete early sampling, and pandemic-era restrictions.
Understanding the origin is crucial for preventing future pandemics, but scientific consensus won’t solidify without more transparent data from China.

Why are these scientists reserve to smugling?
    And why FBI is investigating?
    Red flags.

Idk man. Why did the FBI investigated Louie, Louie in the 1960s? Why was the singer mumbling? Red flags.

Maybe. But that only matters if you believe that what the FBI director says is truthful and nonpartisan, which would be hopelessly naive.
