I did, and it is in line with what I have observed. Outside of academia, if you give a cold response correcting someone's use of the word pedophile just because the victim has already started her period, you will come across as creepy and attempting to minimize the seriousness of the crime that occurred. I've watched people get dogpiled for doing this. Obviously, pedo is not used in professional settings, so I'm not sure why the technical term needed to be brought up.

On a related note, ephebophilia and hebephilia are in the title of my capstone paper, but I try not to be so out of touch that I overanalyze the accuracy of slang.

My impression was that Rich was just explaining an interesting fact, not trying to overanalyze.

Anyway I'm glad he did mention it because I learned something interesting but more importantly, I got a great laugh out of Stanislav's video.

I'm not bothered by Rich's response. Since this is my area of research, I'm simply educating people on how others will respond outside of a niche forum like this. If it's okay for Rich to educate people on terminology, then there should be no issue with a forensics instructor with a related doctorate educating people in her area of expertise. I was more annoyed by Steve's response.

If someone wants to call Matt Gaetz an ephebophile, I don't see a problem with that. I will continue to call him a pedo.
