Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama is developing an online Doctor of Arts (DA) in English. JSU’s current doctoral degrees are a competitive 450 to 500 per semester hour. (Their only online doctorates currently are in emergency management and in nursing.)
Trustees approve two new degree programs (AnnaKate Freeland, The Chanticleer [Jacksonville State University student newspaper], October 21, 2025)

Hope to see other programs as well. I cant even English well enough for a bachelors degree, so this is a hard pass.

It will be interesting to see if it is a true DA (unlike, say, Harrison-Middleton's). That is, an emphasis on pedagogy and a practical project. The DA was originally designed to create better college teachers who weren't going to focus on research.

I see one does not need a master's to enter the program. Will it offer advanced standing to those who do? And, if so, from which fields of study? And to what extent?
