Middle states approved an extension of Ellis Colleges right to live by 30 days. It will officially not be an NYIT campus anymore and will cease to "be".

Ellis U is still fighting to prove to the regional accreditation gods that every student they have on the books is in fact en EU student (which is not the case). In order to survive the reconsideration process to keep their regional accreditation thy have to have actual students, lol go figure.

CARDEAN needs to clean up it's shady act or get out of the education business all together. To them it's a business to the students it's their life, reputation and money. Changing names time and time again stinks.. I am one of the lucky ones as my degree will be from NYIT, yay!

I know not many here went to or still attend ELLIS COLLEGE CAMPUS of NYIT but I still want to post the info for new folks that may be considering the newly formed Ellis University in Chicago as an education choice.

I for one will be glad that my relationship with Cardean will end in November, the remaining Ellis of NYIT students or better yet NYIT students will get "taught out" by the EU staff, the end!

    Ahhhem..

I know that Ellis "changed hands" but I was unaware that their accreditation was in jeopardy. Ellis has gotten some very favorable mentions on this site (and others) and so we're interested in these developments. Clearly you are on top of this. Would you spell it out for new members (and me) who haven't paid so much attention to this issue? Thanks.

ELLIS UNIVERSITY is now under accreditation reconsideration. They were regionally accredited a few months ago. Since then CARDEAN has left the ELLIS of NYIT students hanging in the breeze. Additionally, they were using all the ELLIS of NYIT students as ghost students for the new EU to gain the accreditation in the first place. I guess a school actually has to have students to be regionally accredited, lol. When Middlestates found out about this they took notice and is now reconsidering their accreditation. (BADDD NEWS FOR THEM)

As of today all the students were given a choice on where they would like to be as a student, I of course again chose NYIT.

They posted pictures of both degrees and the Ellis College of NYIT now has NO mention of ELLIS COLLEGE on it anywhere--It's a regular everyday NYIT degree!!

Ellis University has some hard times ahead but maybe "this time" they will learn their lesson and leave well enough alone.

    LETTER TO STUDENTS BELOW:

    Dear Ellis College Student,

Ellis College of NYIT was created as a division of NYIT operating under NYIT's unique mission to provide career-oriented professional education and access to opportunity. As Ellis College grew, it simply became too big - as we always hoped it would - for NYIT to administer. Therefore, the time has come for NYIT to phase-out its Ellis College branch and for Ellis University to succeed Ellis College. Ellis University is now a separately accredited, independent online university with a distinct mission, and is not part of NYIT.

Beginning December 1, 2008, Ellis College of NYIT will conclude operations as a separate administrative unit of NYIT and will not admit any new students. However, you can opt to complete your NYIT degree through an arrangement NYIT has made with Ellis University. This arrangement was approved by NYIT's regional accrediting agency on October 30, 2008.

As an Ellis College student you have two options. You may either: (1) choose to complete your degree with NYIT (being taught out by Ellis University) or (2) you can elect to transfer to and complete your degree with Ellis University. You must make your decision by November 30, 2008.

Whichever choice you make, you will be taking your classes at Ellis University, which will offer the same familiar faculty, courses, learning platform, and classroom experiences you know as Ellis College. Essentially, your academic experience will not change.

We want you to make an informed decision that best meets your personal goals. You'll find answers to "frequently asked questions" by accessing the Teach-Out Information page under the Campus tab in the Virtual Campus.

We encourage you to explore both the Ellis College of NYIT website (www.ellis.nyit.edu) and the Ellis University website (www.ellis.edu) for more information about the benefits of receiving a degree from either institution. If you have specific questions please contact your academic advisor.

When you are ready to make your decision, you can log into the virtual campus and complete the option form.

Best Regards as you continue to progress toward graduation,

Harriet Arnone, Ph.D. John LaNear, Ph.D.

Provost, Ellis College of NYIT Provost, Ellis University

Everyone I have spoke with is staying with NYIT.... :D

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't understand what all of the uproar is about. I'm enrolled in the MBA program and I opted to go with Ellis University. The only people that seem to be upset about this are upset because Ellis University won't be tied to a B&M...the odd thing to me though is that whether it's tied to one or not, it's still an online degree. It's like they are questioning the validity of their own degree if it's not tied to a B&M.

The classes are exactly the same. I thought they were great at Ellis College of NYIT and they are great at Ellis University. It's the same faculty. From what I've seen, they're not trying to screw anyone over etc; etc; it seems more like they are trying to get back to their original intent: being a standalone, independent online university.

If the accreditation issues that recruiting is referring to are real, this is the first that I've heard of them and I talk with the advisers etc; etc; all of the time and they have been very open/honest about everything. Part of that could be because I've learned so much about education over the years that I know what questions to ask them but.... I sincerely doubt that the sky is falling but I will ask.

It's as you said - some people feel their degree carries more weight when it comes from a long-established B&M school, as opposed to an online college that few have heard of. It's all a matter of your perspective, I suppose.

The accreditation issues and concerns are very real, but the Ellis folks that I've talked to believe (desperately hope?) that it can be handled and resolved quickly. It's not the kind of thing you want advisors and staff to talk about, and I'm guessing many instructors (who aren't onsite) don't even know. They certainly aren't permitting anyone to talk to students about it, and when I spoke with one of my friends who is still there in an administrative position, she was shocked that I had read about it online.

Yes you should, it's been going on for a while now, BTW I too am an Ellis NYIT student. Just go to their accreditation website it's under PUBLIC DISCLOSURE.

No one said the sky is falling that is unless EU loses it's regional accreditation. ;)

    Take care

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of any of that but...it's there in black and white. I disagree that they left students hanging though:

    Dear Ellis Student:
Last winter we told you that a new entity, Ellis University, was being created following NYIT and Cardean Learning Group’s long-standing plan to create an independent, world-class online university for working adults.
We are happy to let you know that this new university received regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association on May 28, 2008. Ellis University has one final step to take: apply for and receive authority from the federal government to administer federal financial aid – something we expect to be granted soon. In the meantime, Ellis University has multiple types of other financial aid available. If you are interested in considering transfer to Ellis University or for more information on the programs offered, visit www.ellisuonline.com
For currently enrolled students, things at Ellis College of NYIT will continue with the same faculty and courses through Ellis College of NYIT. Ellis College students should be aware that you will see references to Ellis University on the virtual campus and eventually in your courses.
With the accreditation of Ellis University, NYIT will no longer enroll new students in Ellis College of NYIT. NYIT will seek approval from its regional accreditor, Middle States Commission on Higher Education, to wind down Ellis College as a branch campus of NYIT. Once that permission is granted, currently enrolled students will be given the option of completing their degrees with NYIT (being taught out by Ellis University) or to transfer to Ellis University and complete and receive their degrees there.
Once we receive Middle States’ approval you can expect to hear from us in more detail about that choice.
If you have questions about Ellis College of NYIT or Ellis University in the meantime, please contact your advisor or Associate Provost Dr. John Neal at [email protected], or Dean of Students, Dr. Virginia Carlin at [email protected].
    Best Regards,
    Dr. David Harpool
