West Coast University: Celebrating 100 Years of Education in Southern California.
WCU was originally charted in 1909 as an ophthalmology school. Throughout the century it has continued to grow, adding and updating programs – including being one of the first schools to offer Bachelor’s degree programs for working adults in the 1950’s. In May of 1997, the University was reorganized and new leadership emerged. Our efforts focused on becoming a leader in healthcare education and attracting top caliber faculty and staff. WCU designed programs to invigorate and excite students so that they enter the workforce with the skills and the confidence to compete with the best, and to enjoy a lifetime membership in the healthcare community.
West Coast University thinks everyone deserves a chance to live to be 100 like us.

    I remember:

WCU institution expanded and acquired WASC accreditation in 1960's; an engineering school attended by many working engineers and technicians in the aerospace industry was added, along with a business school; it was located at 440 Shatto Place, Los Angeles, Cal. 90020; the faculty tended to include working professionals and the curriculum was geared toward practical application for employment in DoD and aerospace firms; the building is now identified with a sign saying "Dunkking Royal University of Oriental Medicine."; closed in 1997 with last commencement in June; not to be confused with the former American Career College that acquired the name and now operates as West Coast University
